What mods next?
What mods next?
Hey you guys. Im a noob at this kinda stuff. I have a evo 9 with some basic mods. Which include AEM intake, dp, test pipe, hks exhaust, cobb ap, and not that it matters but a turbosmart bov. I am looking for more power. I feel like its not as fast as I thought evos were supposed to be. I only daily drive my car. I do not auto x nor do I drag. Just want more kick. So my questions are:
1) Which performance part should be my next move? LICP?, O2 Housing?, Manifold? Injectors? Fuel Pump? Turbo? Cams?
2) If I do get a bigger turbo. Which one should I get? Are any of these, FP Green, Black, or Red, direct bolt on? Or would I need supporting parts? If so which ones?
Sorry you guys i'm a total noob at this stuff. Thanks for all the help.

depends what you mean by kick, it's not going to feel like a V8, not really, doesnt feel like my V6 TT either, what you're probably not liking is the spineless feel of the the boost tapering down after the initial boost spike, a boost controller and a tune would be your best bet, especially if you want to save some money
you can take your car to a researched reputable tuner closest to you, turn your boost up about 3-5psi, and have them tune timing and fuel, you're going to want a little bit bigger injectors especially if you want to go e85, if you want e85 which will get you another roughly 140whp, go with 1000-1250CC injectors, i'm not sure about just pump gas injector size since no one i know really does this but i'd assume going from stock 560s to 720s or so would get the job done just fine for 23-25psi, get a walbro 400LPH fuel pump, new fuel filter, LICP would be awesome, with modding it delivers more gains due to limiting power by a percentage. FMIC core is always a good choice, more cooling = more dense air = more power. you can do coil on plug kit but i'm not running it and i'm fine...if you're on the stock clutch you're going to need an upgraded clutch, these clutches die around 70-90k miles and don't handle extra power at all from my experience, they are one of the weak links in this car...
but to summarize;
Clutch if you don't have one
Boost controller(talk to your tuner about what to use)
Fuel pump(255lph walbro or 400lph walbro is cheapest and easiest)
Injectors
Tune
this is a VERY expensive car to modify out of the gate because of the clutch needs, find someone to give you a deal on swapping the clutch, a dealership will want like 2-2.5k for this, my mechanic swapped my clutch for 400 bucks, and i paid 445 for a competition clutch stage 2 with 2 day shipping through a vendor here, so i spend about 845, you probably won't get this deal but try anyway...you do not want to spend what an on the books job costs on this clutch....after that your next obstacle is finding a fairly priced turbo, that's why i say stay with the stock one, do E85, 400+ awhp is very fast you won't have much competition on the street if all you do is daily drive and roll race on the freeway, once you're clear of those hemorrhaging pieces...everything else isn't too bad, except fmic cores, the evo community willingly lets sellers be insane with their prices on these, my $60,000 V6 TT car has fmic cores i can get for like 250-300 bucks and they made about 1/10 of them as evos, so goes to show you who your peers are...
good luck

A good power goal could 400hp on pump gas & you don't have to upgrade engine internals or buy an expensive clutch kit. I suggest a small to mid sized turbo (FP white, HKS GTII, FP green, Tomei 7960, many other good options...) You would need larger injectors (850-1000cc) & stage 1 kind of clutch kit (Exedy stage 1 or Exedy hyper single). You could also install stage1 or stage2 camshafts (Kelford, GSC, HKS, BC, Tomei, etc).
