aftermarket speakers+no amp=pointless?

okay guys i been on the forum for a while. this might be a noob question, lol. im not really into car audio stuff, but i do have a decent system which was first thing i bought for the car. i have 2 eclipse subs which sound pretty good.

i know for a fact its pointless to get a component set without an amp because you cant get the real ''highs'' on the tweeter and that their is not enough power.

my question is would it be pointless to get after market speakers without an amp? i mean if i do is it going to be loud as the stock speakers? is it going to be more clear than the stock speakers? thanks

aftermarket speakers will still sound better than stock. but yes an amp will always help them sound better. i ran a component set in my truck without at amp and they sounded much better than the stock speakers.

you should notice a difference from stock to aftermarket..

with an amp you will notice a substantial difference,

just curious, what kind of speakers are you looking at?

Depends upon the HU too. They're not all created equal... If using HU power, only get coxials and get something rated close to rated power output of the HU. Yes, aftermarket will sound better.

Getting good speakers is like getting a nice diamond in a plastic ring. It's better than a plastic gem in a plastic ring, but still isn't perfect.

Also, the point about HU is a very important one, the stock speakers on both the Evo and the Porsche sounded much better after upgrading from the crappy stock HU (especially the Porsche's 1999 HU, who's CD player still skipped)

I don't know if I'm the first to say this and I am no expert but to me aftermarket speakers won't sound better than stock speakers especially hooked up on a stock radio, I read somewhere that aftermarket (more complicated expensive stuff is harder to get to sound better) I think Deckert or something like that was this guys last name, anyway in a make belive world I would find a way to buy a amp first and find a way to hook it up to the cars stock system and go from there blow out the stock speakers when you can afford the more complicated ones, and go from there. Cause no matter what your going to need an amp to make those new expensive speakers to get them their full potential which requires a amp and what they have them hooked up to when you go to the best buy and hear them.

The choice of whether to just replace speakers or to add an amp will ultimately be decided on the price point you have set for yourself.

Just to clear some things up tho, replacing basically any factory equipment with aftermarket products (and i'm not talkin about the crap you buy from a flea market) will enhance sound quality.

Replacing the factory radio with an aftermarket will make your factory speakers sound better and replacing the factory speakers will also make it sound better, even if it is not being amplified.

True, most component sets wont sound that great (they may even sound like s***) if they are not amplified, but you dont have to go that route. you can always just buy coaxials.

my professional recommendation is that if you don't want to spend the money on an amp right now, but think you might in the future, get a good set of coaxials. if you def plan on amping them, go with components. and if you could really care less about an amp and dont feel like wasting the time or the money on one and sound quality isnt your biggest concern in life, then get a decent pair of coaxials just to give you something more than what the factory has to offer.

and like depsy just said, going with a better radio will def help out your speakers. when i first got my car, first thing i did was replace the factory radio with a nice alpine and it made the factory speakers sound a helluvalot better

if you set the hp filter than yeah, youll lose the low frequencies, but if you're not adding subs it can be left on fullpass and its not a problem. if the bass still sounds low then it can be turned up on the HU
