Talk to me aboot motor mounts

Hokay, so I currently have stock mounts for my dogbone, trans, and engine mount. The front mount is the Buschur front center bar which has the mount built in.

I love the car because it is smooth and quiet inside with no odd buzzing or vibrations. I do not want to lose that aspect of the car. One of my friends who's car made about 360whp says he enjoys driving in my car more than his because its just as smooth and quiet cruising except its about 2x the power lol.

I want to maintain the non buzzy interior at all costs. So I wont be replacing the dogbone mount. All Im considering doing is the trans mount and passenger side mount. I honestly can say Ive never experienced wheel hop in my car while launching, but there definitely is some noticeable slack in everything when shifting and if im at low RPM and low speed, occasionally Ill get a pretty bad bucking which I have to rectify by clutching in or by timing it and accerlating to stop the bucking.

So what motor mounts could I go with that will stiffen my motor up without buzzing the interior of my car?

torque position mounts would be the ones that are quicker to tear and obviously gets most of the use when launching

An engine damper would actually fall into this category which you ask.

Changing engine mounts will always transfer the vibrations of the engine through subframe/body of the vehicle over stock as the durometer of the bushings surely increases and dampening characteristics decrease. Also the stiffness of the actual mount housing causes an effect.
Although, some are more then others I'm curious of other experiences as well for different mounts.

Ya I did consider the Ingalls damper, but I dont really like the idea of where its placed putting, potentially, so much strain on the strut tower of just one side of the car. Unless Im wrong totally.

I have the AMS inserts on all 4. My car shakes, rattles and vibrates at idle only. My steering wheel seems to take the most abuse, and if you hold it, it does stop.

I agree, polyurethane motor mounts or anything with increased durometer (over stock) would undoubtedly transfer vibrations through the frame into the cabin..

The ingalls dampener is right up your ally. I've never read reports of "strain" on the strut mount. With the buschur lower mount the engine already isnt moving much (back & forth).. So I don't know how much the dampener would benefit you.

See thats the thing is I know theres no movement down low but I know with how the car bucks that it moves a ton up top since the mounts are so soft.

Perhaps the damper would be the way to go then since it does mount so high up.

^ true. I didn't think of that.. Interesting, because I've experienced some "bucking" as well in at low rpm/ low speed (have blox lower mount)..

Maybe the ingalls dampener would be a good option for most of us?? Particularly ones with an upgraded lower mount. I'm going to look more into this..

I'm not one that cars too much about creature comforts or how "comfortable"/ drivability a car has but... I've driven and installed several complete polyurethane mounts (all 4) and I must say its truly one mod I don't care for.. The vibration is unbearable for DD, unless you like having face vibrate off.

I love poly mounts, The vibrations always seem to be hyped up by some people. I had poly mounts in everyone of my DSM's and even with the balance shafts removed. They vibrate much more within the first 100 miles of installation or so, but after they break in, they are great.

nah, the stress on your strut tower is negligible from the engine compared to the amount of force the damper inserts on it, its one of the stiffest parts of the body. Stress from one side compared to the other is something I also wouldn't worry about, its not like your entire car is symmetrical anyways.

Hope that helps

Polyurethane mounts absolutely have their place in the performance realm, but DD modding is a science between comfort and performance.. and I didn't mean to "hype" the vibration.. I truly think its a matter of preference, some say "way to much shaking/vibrations !", while others say "best mod ever"...

I had just front and rear 96 durometer mounts in MazdaSpeed Protege and that thing would literally vibrate the dash apart at idle. It drove me nuts at stop lights. It performed beautifully though. Im considering just doing the lower mount and the dampener in mine as well.

I daily drive mine. Some people just like more comfort then I do. Hell I used to drive my old 1g with DSS Drag suspension when I was told it would not be very nice on the street... And I liked it.
