I have access to one of these units from FP new and was wondering if in comparison to the stock 8-9 turbo's would the 6.5 TME be any kind of an upgrade? if I can keep the car stockish and bring it up to boost sooner and have better transient response I'd be all for it.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I have seen these for sale on FP's website and their like $3700.00, yeah its a better turbo than a stock 8 or 9 turbo. You can buy a nice turbo kit or a good stock frame fp/ bbk/ or map turbo for that price.

 

The TME turbo is a quicker spooling turbo than either the stock VIII, or IX USDM 16G turbos. It has better transient reponse as well. It puts out a tad more power than the VIII 16G but less than a IX turbo.

Whether the purchase and the install are worth it depends on the price and your goals. It is essentially a horizontal move powerwise. Maybe a 71 HTA would be better. The 71 spools just a wee bit slower than a stock IX, but produces gobs more power for about $1700. Power is good!
