2003 Evo VIII Valve Cover Bolts Question

Hello,

I ordered a bolt kit for my valve cover. If I replace the bolts, do I need a new gasket? Or can I just remove the old bolts and replace it with the new ones. Sorry for the newb question. Thanks.

No gasket, just take the bolts off and screw in the new ones

It will depend on what condition the VC gasket is in.

If the gasket is soft and still in good shape, and not leaking, you should be fine swapping the bolts.

If it is hard and old and feels brittle, install a new one.

I suggest replacing the bolts. Then, if you have any leaks, replacing the gasket. BTW, the bolt torque is 31 inch pounds, in other words, almost nothing. Over tightening may break the cover.

Good idea! This way I don't have to replace the gasket if I don't have to. Thanks.
