Oil temps 190F?

I noticed something sort of strange today...normally, my oil temp reads about 180. As it did when I was cruising this morning (it was about 40 deg).

On my way home, I drove about 15 minutes on the highway, 5th gear between 3-4.5k rpm the entire way. It's about 55 deg, very high humidity. Wansnt pushing my car, just cruising entered low boost a few times (>10psi). And my oil temp was up to about 190. I use Mobil 1 5w-30, just changed it about 250 mi ago. The sensor is on the oil filter housing. Never seen it get these temps before though.

What's going on? Should I be worried? Anything I can check?

Great, thank you. I just got a little concerned because I've never driven really this car in the summer, and I've never been able to monitor oil temps before. And when I searched around i found most people saying around 170-180 was normal/optimal.

Sorry to come off as a noob haha everything with this car seems to worry me haha

with normal cruising (zero boost) around 3000-3500rpms i'm right at 180 and a little more if i go a little faster. wouldn't surprise me if the oil was a little hotter going up to 4500rpms and esp some boost.

May depend on what oil you run.

my oil temps are between 140-180. Usually at cruising im at 140 and after i run my car hard it gets to 180. But i also have my oil temp sensor in my drain plug like the OEM setup. Your 'normal' temps will be different depending on where you have your temp sensor.

Why are you running the wrong weight oil?

Try changing to 10W-30 and see if the temps return to normal. 5 W 30 is kinda thin even in winter for those temps.

That sounds normal. That nothing on my bmw 335xi I usaully see 220-230 just crusing and if you really drive the car hard 250 deg isn't out of the question. That normal on the bmw as the turbo's really heat the oil up. You have nothing to worry about.

Sounds low to me. Anything under 260 degrees is fine.

^x2. You should be running 10w-30 in those temps, per the OEM manual. Also as noted above, you're fine until about 255*. If you tracked your car, you'd be surprised how hot the oil gets after a beating.
