for a 2.0 revving to 10k,i would go with the S3 like he said or if you just had to do kelfords the kelford 288/288 instead of the dual pattern 288/280 listed above and commonly sold.

Kelford also make some HL(high lift) cams for extreme applications in i think 284HL and 294HL,but i think they would be for even bigger turbos than the 6766,which you don't seem to see much anymore on EVO's.

on a HTA35R 2.3L
In my experience they are easier to make idle from the tuning standpoint but either cam will work fine on the street. The R2 has its advantages in some areas where the S3 lacks and vice versa.

With the DSM S3 being the same lift as the Evo, 11.7mm, Jeff's car doing so much better on those than the Crane Shep Spec we used to run, I would dont see the need for the larger duration and higher lift. Higher than 12.1mm that is.

Geometry issues, potential spring issues vs boost/rpm, and the fact that the turbo needed to drive them really wakes up the S3 as is. As far as large turbos I think there is going to be a resurgence of 42R cars in the next few months. Bigger motors, MIVEC, the right cams, and good twin scroll setups will make the power for those that need it....thats a different thread though

I just had a rollor lock up and wipe out a lobe on my bf272 cam. I'm thinking hard about the R2 cams. I could do a comparison if I get them as nothing on My setup has changed since I dynoed my car last. I keep thinking S3's but i wanna keep my drivability and torque.

How come no one ever counts in the BF272 cams? Their freakin awesome! I love my powerband and honestly I would like to keep it close to the same which is why I'm not sold in the S3's.... on the other hand I personally don't like BR which is why I WILL NOT but another set of came from them! Gsc takes care of their people which is why My next cams will be gsc's.....

Ok I'm having trouble understanding this. You recommend these cams for only larger displacement motors with an FP black or larger, yet the R2 cams make power sooner than the
S2's while making an additional 25whp AND idling just as well.

Why should these not be the replacement for the S2's even on a stock turbo, stock motor car?

I'll be moving from S3's to R2's for a few reasons.

- No more low RPM surge with the S3's.
- Better idle
- Probably improved spool up time, without a significant drop in power below 8800.

Excuse my ignorance, What is low RPM surge?

25whp on a Red.

12mm of lift requires some pretty burly springs, GSC 5041 or Kiggly Beehives. It requires big valve pockets which a stock motor doesnt have. They really emphasize power in areas where both the stock bottom end and a stock turbo arent happy anyway. Its the exact same scenario why I dont recommend S3s on a stock turbo and stock motor. Stock turbo and a 2.4 maybe but then we have a case of things that dont match the best way they could.

What is a valve pocket? The recesses in the top of the pistons?

Any idea if these will work fine on a high compression 2.4LR motor? I am running 10.0:1 compression CP Pistons with BC long Rods. I will be running the Cosworth 1.3mm head gasket as well. I have stock head and cams currently, but I want to go with GSC over sized valves, springs and these R2 cams. Will I run into an clearance issues? I have been waiting over half a year for these since I first heard GSC starting work on the R2 cams specific for the stroker motors I will run these if I wont run into any clearance issues. I also have HKS adjustable cams gears. I wish English was a bit closer to where I lived so I could have you guys do my tune as well

That is the exact combo (more or less) that Mikey has been running since we built his car. He had Wiseco 1400HDs but your CPs might have large enough valvepockets. I'd need to see a picture.

yay. Aaron hook me up with some GSC zero tick lifters when you call about the r2's. It's time for an Alabama care package.
