Cold start, car tend to move itself
Cold start, car tend to move itself
Hi,
when i bought my evo8 (EU with ACD) with worn clutch, during the clutch change i let gearbox+transfer case revised. We put new bearings into gearbox, everything looks ok. Transfer looks mint. Oil in box is Motul 75W90 semisynth and transfer+rear diff have mineral Motul PA90.
When i start(crank) the car with neutral(not stepped on clutch) car jumps forward and tent to constantly move. When i step on clutch, car movement stop, idle RPM rise a little. After some warmp up its gone away.
Is it normal, due cold "mineral based" oils or its something wrong?

I too noticed something similar to this a couple of weeks ago. It only happens in the cold and I first noticed this a couple of weeks ago starting my car at night after work. I am quite confused and dont understand why it would be happening.
When I start my car I push in the clutch, then put the car in neutral and release the clutch to let it warm up a little bit. Right when I release mu clutch the car jerks forward a smidge. Now my handbrake is up so the car really cant move much but it loads up the drivetrain a little. How could the car even load up if the car isnt in gear?
My only guess is that since it was really cold out when it happened, maybe the oil in my trans was so thick that it applied a little force on the gears and gave it a little push?

If you think a little, it cannot be clutch drag. Clutch is not engaged, engine is just connected with input shaft of gearbox, in "move forward" situation.
Heel2toe: which gearbox and transfer oil you using?

Hm i checked viscosity at 40degC , your oil is 87, mine is 107
During idling on neutral, input shaft in gearbox rotate same like engine. Output shaft and everything after (ie. transferbox..) doesnt mooving.
So it must be only combination of thicker oil and some clearance on bearings, syncros ect. But your oil is better than mine. Is your gearbox virgin or was repaired yet?
