Mivec cam angle sensor help?

Mivec cam angle sensor help?
Maybe I'm missing something? Service manual says the part with the paint side should be up at TDC? I don't see any paint? Any help on knowing which way to go?

I didn't see any paint on mine either.
I looked at the manual and it looks as if he cam is at TDC, dowel pin up, the closest notch would be at 11 o'clock......looks like it is right in your pic. Like you said, 50/50 shot and I remember the other position the notches were way off from where they show in the manual.
