My almost successful 20g with Billet wheel Build

Wanted to go with a 20g so took apart my Evo IX Turbo and put a 20g housing with anti surge with a twin scroll 6 blade extended tip Billet wheel. Things went smooth.. Here are the pics of the build..

Put car back together. Bolted everything up felt fine.. Car started right up then took it out for a run....

Car would not build boost and made an awful noise... coasted back home popped the hood and OMG do not like what i saw. Wheel was hitting inside of the housing.... Only thing I can think of is that the wheels was not balanced right.. Sending back to the vendor to verify..

Anyone have any experience with the these wheels failing? Or anything similar?

I want to crack 410 on pump at the wheel. Pretty sure I will hit that. I am so close on the stock snail. Now with the new JMF 02 housing and the ported exhaust manifold. I should see some gains

Why do you ask?

71hta = your goal . At this point you're out a rebuild anyways. The 71 is 650 on a core swap.

Let us know what happens from your vendor

Yup happens.. Believe me I had an experience just like this and it sucks.

71hta is the stock turbine compressor wheel upgrade. I'm around 430 vd self tuning on 93 . S2 cams.

Hmmmm.. Ok.. Sorry Brain is fried... Been a long weekend of building then tearing back down. If i can't get this stuff replaced I will explore the FP route... My Cams are not as aggressive but I would be very happy with 430 atw...

if I were your vender I wouldnt give you another wheel. its not the wheels fault here. its the installers fault. I posted on tuners and will post here for others benefit. you most likley bent your shaft during install. slightly out of balance turbo will last months. yours failed instantly indicating bent shaft from over torquing

there is also another possibility of assemmbly error for this to fail instantly. if compressor cover was not seated correctly.

the original question was can you bolt in a balanced wheel to a turbo with out balancing the turbo assembly? the answer is mitsubishi turbo parts are balanced individually when new. and can be assemmbled without an a assembly balance.

the rule is you can bolt it on to an original never rebuilt turbine wheel. if turbo was rebuilt at some point in time and balanced as an assembly to compressor weel then the turbine is no longer factory balanced by itself. you would need to balance the turbo before use in that case

also if you overtighten nut during assemmbly the shaft can bend a tiny bit and cause this as well.

All was done to spec.. Turbo was build correctly and was a factory Mitsu turbo. Nothing was wrong with the turbo and was in perfect working order. nut was tq'd by fingers then added 1/4 turn...

So don't take my post as saying its faulty parts.. But that being said I am not ruling it out either. I am sending it back to the vendor to verify and deal with what ever there assessment is.. Either My error or theirs..

did I start a thread bashing the vendor saying they sell crappy parts? No.. I just was posting my experience on here in case anyone else was attempting this or had a similar experience.

Thanks for your opinion and in the info.. I find posts like this beneficial.
