Clutch slipping but not during full load pull- Please Help!!!

Hello All,

Background: Evo IX with bushur tune and TBE. Bone stock other than this. Made 291 HP and 270 Ft-lbs on the Mustang Dyno.

I've never launched the car and never will. This isn't my first evo, (I did ruin the stock clutch in my first evo and know exactly what that's like)

I've done multiple pulls in 4th and 5th gear from low rpm going to full load and the clutch holds with no problems/issues.

Now on to the problem ====> In the following sequence:

1. When I autox the car after I've already begun the course (say from 40 mph), in 1st gear, I'll let off the throttle and turn in

2. Then get back on the throttle hard at corner exit.

3. The clutch feels like it slips (car doesn't pull as hard as normal for 1st gear).

4. I can quickly let off the throttle and get back on, and the clutch will engage or I can shift to second, and the clutch will engage (car will then pull normally)

5. When I'm finished with that run, I can raise my hood and it does smell like clutch = (

When I start out in 1st gear at autox ( with out launching) the car pulls fine and the clutch does not slip. I've tried adjusting the clutch multiple times with no change. I can post a you-tube video tonight. BTW I've searched pages and couldn't find anyone with the same issue.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks,

-Ryan

EDIT:

Video on my youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/subarusareslow

Please note the engine noise during 19-21s and 23-24s marks to hear the slipping noise.

Hey I need to update that, I actually live in Columbus, IN. I will be going to Wilmington soon though! The video I'm working on posting now was this weekend in Louisville.

Where do you AutoX?

Car is stock from a boost perspective. The restrictor pill in the stock lines is still there. No boost controller. David Buschur tuned it on stock boost.

Anyy ideas anyone? I've done some more research, and read one article where someone mentioned a warped flywheel could cause this.

I'm not clear - are you still in 1st for those parts of the video?

Once I downshifted to 1st at an autox in my old WRX and I thought the clutch was slipping but it turns out it was just a lot of wheelspin *if* you are still in 1st, and all the other stuff is true...

Other than that, I got nothin

Yes - I'm still in 1st gear during those timeframes. It could be wheel spin I suppose, but I smell clutch after it happens.

Calling Mr Shepard now.

The pill is there to slow down clutch engagement. So, pull the pill.

1st gear is least likely to slip, and hard to imagine that the pill slows down engagement that much. are you feathering the clutch at any time? i would tend to suspect wheelspin.

Mine started slipping, upon removal of the clutch the clutch surfaces were fine but the factory pull style throwout bearing wasnt disengaging all the way. So it was basically like I was riding the clutch.

Hmm good to know. Thank you xplosive! I'm not touching the clutch at all. Simply off throttle on the brakes and back on the throttle.

Could just be putting too much heat into the clutch on the launch. That will cause temporary slip...
