EVO 8 vs 9 rings

I'm reading that there is a difference between 8 and 9 rings, but I'm finding that replacement rings (such as Hastings sold by DSMGraveyard) will fit both applications.

Reason being, I have a set of rings that I was ready to use with my VIII pistons. I'm having to pull them (long story) and am replacing them with IX rods and pistons. I was hoping to use the rings that are already sized to my bores.

Can someone clarify?

Brady

FYI, the rings coming to you on the pistons are in good condition.
You could probably reuse them. Not sure if thats a great idea but,

Block still has lotta cross hatching in every single cylinder
