Today I pulled the roller rockers out and the lifters on the intake side and did the leak down test on all 4 cylinders. The outcome is that #1 is leaking off 37% through the intake mani and the rest of the cylinders 2-4 are below 5% and are good no issues. All cylinders were tested to the max for the leak down tester I have and that is 100 psi. I called BR to find out my next plan of action and was told I should talk to David Buschur and that he wouldn't be back to the shop until 4:30pm ET, so I will call in the morning to talk to him and find out the plan and what to do from here.

Glad you found the problem. Hopefully the piston did not hit the valve assuming it is timed correctly.

Yeah it was timed correctly so I know that wasn't an issue this time. The first time I started the car tho the lifters were not bled and the timing tension pulley wasn't torqued to spec so both caused issues and on the initial start up and valves were touched and the timing belt jumped about 2 teeth on intake side and the car was shut down immediately. This is why I sent the head back to BR to get it looked over and fixed, it was vacuum tested and they said only the exhaust valves touched and needed to be replaced and vacuum tested again and shipped back. Before I sent the head to them for the repairs #1 and #3 spark plugs were clean so no explosions in those cylinders even at that time. We figured it was from the lifters and the timing hiccup, but who knows really. So I have found a great reputable shop here in CO and we will test the head together and look into it even further to figure out what is going on with the intake valves for cylinder #1 and get it fixed. I still would like to talk to BR and get some ideas and feedback from them, all in all BR is a great shop and in no way am I saying they are responsible for the initial damage just curious if those intake valves had issues from the beginning, I think I will never know and I have the up most respect for the guys, the shop and the amazing work they do at BR!!

Last week I was able to meet up with one of the great EVO tuners and specialist here in CO, TOBZ. The head is fine and valves probably just need to seat more. What I did find out and not sure how and why I was doing this but I was installing the plug wires backwards. I have the OEM coils and wires and was using the wire from #2 to #1 and #4 to #3. I know #4 goes to #1 and #2 goes to #3. This was the relationship between #1 and #3 not firing as the spark was happening just not at the right time almost as if it was 180 out on the timing. I feel kinda dumb but it is what it is and I will never forget this.

I have ordered a new head gasket from STM Tuned on Monday and got overnight shipping and have been getting everything ready and assembled. I will get the head gasket tomorrow and hope to have the car started and running and seating the piston rings Thursday!

That makes sense why I thought the cam sensor tone ring was installed backwards.

Hopefully you get some partial refund to have the valves reseated. I dont know how that was not found when it was tested.

On heads that I used to do, we would make a rubber gasket and bolt it to a steel plate/table and leak down each cylinder with shop air to verify that the valves are seating/sealing properly and we can see how much is leaking down.

I had same problem with my Evo 6 TME, cylinder 2 was suddenly missing. After some check I found out there was a broken resistor pack for one of the cylinder. 3 pieces was having the same ohm but the last one was blow off.

But very interesting forum, this help me a lot to find this problem myself. Thanks
