Why does my EVO Almost stall when....

I was at the dragstrip a couple of times. When I was waiting in line, the big, huge muscle cars would pull up beside me. They have those real loud rumbling engines that I could feel in my car...when one would pull beside me(at a standstill) with the rumbling engine...my car would sputter and almost stall

Any ideas why?

Ha ..happened to me too .. I came to the conclusion that the intake was sucking in bad/not enough air.. anyone else?

nah i think u have plenty of air coming in when u're just sitting there idling..maybe something to do with vibrations and stuff. all i know is that really low frequency noises can start hurting a human's organs..that doesnt help at all in this situation does it

Well this is just a theory but.....

While a bunch of us were meeting with our evos down here in SFLA; one of the guys tapped the top of his airbox and the car almost stalled and died. He did this several time in a row and it dod the same thing everytime.

So maybee the vibrations are somehow messing with the MAS?

Dont know for sure but maybee that and the limited air going through the intake at the sme time has something to do with it?

maybe it's the MAS sensor then

EDIT: on second thought, then why wouldn't the car stall hitting a bump in the road? if hitting the airbox stalls it, then why wouldnt your car (in neutral, idling, going some speed) almost stall then?

It's possible that the frequency of the noise from the big ol' honking V-8 is affecting the knock sensor. Just a thought, I have no idea if this is correct.

Knock module sensor for sure Thats why LT1 owners including me swap it with an LT4 one, it is less sensitive to vibrations and it will not send a false knock (like headers cams and stuff like that) to the ECU.

Your car is afraid and is trying to pretend that it is sick.

This never happened to me and I've gotten ROCKED by two different hot rods that I had the misfortune to line up against.

I hope they don't find out about it! Will give them another reason to feel superior over us!

I remember that. After I swapped to my LT4 Hotcam and headers, my ECU was picking up some knock. I switched to an LT4 knock module and picked up a 1.5 MPH in trap speed.

Apparently, the 1.6 rockers made some excessive noise.
