Painting over Swain Tech

Hey guys. I just sent my exhaust manifold, o2 housing, and dump tube to Swain Tech to get the White Lightning put on. I'm not planning on it now but maybe in the future, to paint over the White Lightning if I ever get tired of the white look. I was just wondering if it's okay to paint over White Lightning?

Yes you can. But you have to use high temp paints and make sure the swain tech coating is clean

Thanks man. Sounds like if I want to paint it it'll be best to paint it when it's brand new.

^^ there are a ton of threads online on painting over the swaintech coating.

Everyone recommends the VHT header paint. That's my plan, since I'm doing the same thing you are.

hum. maybe you can. but IMO i would let it heat cycle a few times on the car. it is recommended and best to do this before you have it Swain Tech coated. i would assume after it is coated it would be best to do it again. make sure you coat evenly. otherwise you will notice the texture to vary.

i have had 2 DP's 3 manifold's and 3 turbines done. all but one turbine was heat cycled and i never had an issue. i guess its the ''it could happen'' type deal. you are prob fine.

my new setup will be a bit extreme. Swain tech mani, turbine, DP as always but ill have the DP wrapped and a DEI turbo blanket on the turbine housing.

i tried it last year but i put the turbo blanket on before assembling the turbo kit. when i put the oil return line on i must of pinched the blanket between the flange. well i am lucky i did not burn the car to the ground. the blanket absorbed a crap load of oil and i drove it around for about 25 miles thinking it was the typical smoke from installation that you sometimes see. i will be a bit more careful this time.
