driveshaft issues

im getting really bad outer cv joint noises from both wheels. ive replaced both joints and its still making the same noise. the joints did knock off and on the shafts really easily so i wondered if it could be the retaining snap rings not holding the shafts in the joints on full lock

i rang mitsi dealer and they said the shafts dont have retaining snap rings on the outer ends. is this correct?

evo iv btw

No snap ring on the outer end, the joint at the wheel does not disassemble.

The boots are replaceable. The boot bands are released and the "C" ring and tripod are removed from the inner end. Then both boots are slid off of the inner end. New boots are the reverse of the process.

I don't know how the outer joint is assembled at the factory but I've not heard of it being replaced as a separate part in the field. If the joint is damaged it is cause for a new or rebuilt axle.

Okay, I just now see you drive a Evo 4. I searched the site you referenced for a 8 or 9 outer CV joint and all I come up with is a complete axle. So, the outer joint on your car can be changed. Good luck with your project.
