With the ease of access to advanced ECUs, a fuel pressure sensor with an ECU failsafe is something that should be considered if tracking any Evo due to the starvation issue. A surge tank is, of course, a very good fix for something that isn't a dedicated race car, but a loss of fuel pressure from any mechanical fault can toast an engine. The ECU can save your engine a lot better than you can!

I am running a 3L Nuke Performance Surge Tank with 2 AEM 400Lph "044 Style" pumps and BPR fuel hanger with a single 450 in-tank. Need to heat shrink the frayed parts on the pump output lines.

I'd go with a similar setup but I really want to keep all the trunk space. I dont trailer my car and I carry tools, fuel and a scooter in there

Radium has a Evo 8/9 install kit for their surge tank which doesn't consume truck space

thinking of having a custom tank made + external fuel pump, that will all fit under the car.
Any idea how many seconds of fuel starvation these surge tanks protect against?

With a surge tank it is constantly overflow returning to the tank so you shouldn't have an issue because the return is near the pump so the overflow will keep the pump fed inherently. Also the pump in-tank is considered a lift pump so it's flow needs to be at least half the free flow (0psi) of the pump or pumps off the surge tank supplying the fuel rail.

I would get this and do the horizontal config and put it where the evap system is under the trunk and behind the rear left wheel.

anyone know why this issue isn't normally addressed within the tank? it seems you only need to put the fuel pump assembly inside a container
any smart ideas @ayoustin ?

Not enough room.

Fuel Cell you can do a FCFST (Fuel Cell Fuel Surge Tank)

From what I've seen the stock tank doesn't starve til it's around 1/4 tank. It's better than most other factory fuel tanks out there.

I'm not a fan at all of surge tanks, they rarely work correctly the first time. It's almost always easier and cheaper to just put a fuel cell in the car if starvation is a huge problem on a racecar.

fuel pump assembly is in a container allready, from stock... Problem is that in left hand turns the fuel goes to the passenger side part of the tank and is pumped back only by a little suction off that T piece in the fuel return circuit.. adding an additional electric pump in the passenger side of the tank should fix most of the problems.. I actually made such a system, but due to issues with getting a car to test it on still have no results to show.. LOL

see here..>
