Evo 8/9 on road course - fuel starvation common?
Is fuel starvation a common issue on 8/9 on a road course? If yes, how low of a fuel level before it starts happening?
Might want to throw this one in the motorsprts section mrfred. On street tires not really. Once you go up to stickier tires and high g lefthanders it may be an issue when at 1/4 tank and under.
We've lost a couple engines over here running at or below 1/4 tank. As stated above higher G left handers hold the fuel away from the intake/pump long enough to cause starvation which is especially an issue when running E85 as the symptoms (before it goes really bad) are harder to notice especially wearing a helmet.
Bringing this back. I was at a small track this weekend and after hard left handers the car just lost power. It felt like it just shut off, then if I let up on the throttle it would be fine. I tried to recreate the issue on the road and was not able to. I had right at half tank so I wouldn't think starvation would be the problem as I have ran down to 1/4 before on track. Any insight would be great.
this is common on the track in left handers.. first think you will notice is strange engine knock happening after left handers (if you have CEL on knock trough Tephra V7) or just strange loss of power... this is due to fuel pump going dry in left handers..

Noticed this issue once at Thunderhill going over a slight left hand crest WOT with 1/4 tank. Have since been conscious of fuel level. Considered buying Radium bolt in surge tank for piece of mind and also just to stare at; radium parts are almost too nice to be installed. Ahaha

Probably not. I had no problem using and abusing my road and mountain bikes (and my RC car), but I have a hard time abusing my Evo that can easily result in a $5K repair bill if something breaks.
Oh you'd be fine
.
Just gotta remember that no one wins a track day but you can lose. I don't push that hard on the straights, just ~3/4 throttle up to around 120 or so on front and back of PIR and cruise the rest of the way. Then attack the corners for some fun.
Don't have to drive 100% on track, especially if you're in a faster car. There will be lower power cars you can just hang with on the straights and follow their lines on the corners (or decide their lines are **** and drive your line...)

I have the kit, but car does not run. If I can find time ( and mental energy ) I'll test it in near future- 60 days.
It's clever and will significantly improve what we have, to maybe 1/8 of the tank level, which is just enough to survive 25 minute trackday session.

i might not get lucky next time. I need to use up my fuel in order to have a look, hoping to figure something out.
