-5,-5 is fine. Here is a photo at -2. I did -2 because I have HKS cams. Use this photo for reference.

With out going into a large technical explaintion. It's like driving a S-2000 and hitting Vtec. In Vtec the cam timing is adjusted for more up top power.

Does that make sense?

Guys please discuss V-tech in another place, I got it on my acura and it just makes it louder past 4500 rpm.

I need a sure answer what to set my cams to ? before I make a $5000 mistake.

Are you all sure it is -5, -5, can I go -4,-4 just to be safe, I don't want the valves hitting each other.

I think you should live it as stock, a lot of tuners say to leave the stock settings becasue HKS cams are made to be used without the cam pullies, either way u will still feel the extra power!

He didnt install HKS cams; jsut the gears.

He is looking at changing the timing on the stock engine.

BTW how did you install just the gears? Did you completely retime the engine or did you remove one gear at a time and replace?

Thanks

I had a local shop install them for me, since they had to knoledge of setting them, I told them to just leave them at zero, zero. I could set them my self that is the easy part. I was watching them struggle putting them in for over 2 hours, it was difficult. I just need the setting is it -5, -5 ???

Thanks

where are you getting these numbers?

The point of using gears is to increase cam overlap. That is the amount of time you have both exhaust and intake valves open. The air leaving your cylinder from the exhaust helps to pull air in from the intake....but not flat across the board. At lower RPM your engine will idle a bit worse and make less power. You move your peak torque upwards in the rpm band(and lose some.

But HP is calculated by TqxRPM/5252.....so moving torque upwards increase hp.

How is cam overlap increased?

Advancing or retarding the timing?

advance the intake and retard the exhaust? but it has to be tested by a good tuner to not run into any problems
