Gates serpentine belt wont fit

I have a Gates K060705RB serpentine belt that I am trying to put onto an Evo 8 engine that is swapped into an Evo 4. As you can see in the picture, with the tensioner fully extended, the belt does not clear the crank pulley. It actually moves down to the the red line I drew, I just couldn't pull it and take the picture. I feel like I should be posting this in the newbie forum. What stupid mistake did I make?

EDIT: I followed the belt routing diagram from http://www.camskill.co.uk/m8b0s2297p...Without_Aircon

Did you measured it with the old one ? To see how much the difference is?

I did not. I figured with the part number printed right on the belt, there was no chance it was the wrong one. What a ridiculous delay on my engine swap!

Are you sure you have it going over the right sequence of pulleys? I've made that rookie mistake a few times and it took me like 30 mins to figure out why it wouldn't fit LOL

I have the same belt, it's a tight fit. I put it on one side of the crank pulley and spun it around to get it on.

Oh, like a stretchy belt. How long have you had the belt on and how are your pulleys doing? I hope it doesn't put too much stress on them.

the trick is to put the belt on all the pulleys with ribs, then the last part to put on a smooth roller. The back of the belt will slide on to that a lot easier than trying to get over the ribs of a pulley. If that doesnt do it, then something is wrong. Check the length of the old belt to the new one. It shouldnt be that hard to get on.

We have tried multiple ways of getting it on. It seems I'm not the only one with this problem with this belt. Instead of stretching it on and possibly damaging my pulleys I'll just wait for an OEM one from the dealership.

One problem with the gates blue accessory belt is that it's so tight that even when you get it on It squeals

It only needs to stretch on once and run for a bit, then it comes on and off easily. I have about 200 miles on mine.

I suppose it would have been worth mentioning that I retained the power steering and air conditioning pumps from the IV. I've been told I will still require an Evo 4 belt because of the different PS pump position.

Great the Evo 4 belt doesn't fit either. OEM length is 1815mm and I have one that is 1830 and it still wont pull over the idler pulley, even when I crank the engine to stretch it on. Routing is not the issue, what the hell is going on?

I know this thread is two years old; but I feel the info should be out there. Discovered tonight that the Gates K060705 belt won't fit on an engine with an Evo 4-6 power steering pump and bracket. The Evo 7-9 bracket is configured differently. For a car with an Evo 4-6 power steering pump and bracket you need to run an Evo 4-6 accessory belt. I was stumped on this for a few hours trying different methods to install the 7-9 Gates belt until I dug out the old crusty Evo 4 belt that came with my engine set. A search on LancerRegister.com verified my findings. Not a common issue to come across; but for anyone doing a Mirage swap like I am, or swapping a later engine into a IV, this info should help!
