need help

Im new to this site but not to engines(except evos) I have an 8 with two melted pistons and cant afford to rebuild it while im in alaska. My question is would the motor out of a 4 mate up to my8's transmission?. I know they have different compression ratios and the internals are weaker in the 4 but I cant seem to find any info on whether they will mate up or not. Its been eight months and I miss driving it(bit of an understatement).

Evo 4-9 shortblocks are near identical, other than the weaker bearings and crank on the 4. Transmissions are near identical, though flywheels and clutches are bigger on the 7/8/9.

It will fit with your transmission, but your main problem is the 4/5/6 engines wont mate to the 7/8/9 transfer case. They are different in design and mount. And I dont know if a 4 tcase will work in your 8. So you might be out of luck here.

I dont have a 4 up here but I know a few places that will ship a complete block up here, if I cant get it fixed then I'll have to sell it which is going to be damn near impossible consider I still owe money on it. It made the drive all the way from texas and through canada then I get here and I run lean from the ****ty fuel quality and my baby gets turned into a giant paperweight.

Is sending the block out for a general rebuild impossible? A complete 4 motor with shipping would run you about the same anyhow. And wouldnt work anyways. Have you torn down the motor and find out whats damaged?

Needs new rods, pistons, oil pump, oil cooler and lines(fine metal shavings found in the oil). It also needs the cylinder walls honed and the block hotwashed. When I was in texas I had the boost dialed down to 15psi but it kept on surging back up to 22psi. I pretty much inherited the work of an idiot when I bought it.

Yeah they have fairly good engines and if you can't get a motor shipped straight up you can have it shipped to lyndens place in wa then have them freight it up, had to do that with the trans for my truck and was about 150. Once you get it in what I have to do to compensate for the crappy fuel is mix in race gas with the premium. U can get it from the bulk sourdough fuel plant and it comes in 2 flavors 100oct unleaded (which is all you can use if you got a cat) but you can only buy that in the 5 gal drums for idk how much. Or you got 110 oct leaded so no good for cats but you can buy as much as you want for 13 a gal + tax if you bring your own container.

I'd love to try to help you out of a crappy situation with an awesome deal on a shortblock!

Shoot me a PM and we can discuss your needs!

P.S.

I can ship via freight to AK.

True I could do that but that type of octane gets expensive after awhile. A buddy of mine told me about water/meth kits seems like that would be just as good. I dont have a cat, I have a full 3" catless magnaflow sitting on the end of a garret m12 ar .50 with a tial wastegate or had being as it doesn't run now

It's a lot cheaper than buying a new engine. And my problem with water meth is that if it ever fails you engine is toast. And it has to be installed just right. I've seen a few horror stories where the meth system burn through the pistons, idk if it's normal or just something went wrong in the system but that's more risk than I'm willing to take, already had to build a brand new engine from scratch, not trying to do that again. And another problem up here is with weather like we're having now you run the risk of the water freezing in the lines or tank and again kaboom. But if your willing to do that then good luck.

When water/meth goes wrong its most likely too much meth or too much water it is risky but ive got a family so running race gas all the time is out of the question and I cant get a credit card because of my evo I have a ****ty debt to income ratio

First of all, the transfer case mates to the transmission not the engine. With that said, 7/8/9 use the same W5M5 transmission case as the Evo 4/5/6.
