Lately I started to notice a howling/whining noise in 1st gear, same sound you hear when backing up in reverse. I did a 5 speed swap after the 6 speed took a dump. Trans and tcase fluids were changed for the 2nd time in 3k miles. Id like some insight before I contact the fellow evom member about it

Noise is only in 1st gear

 

Mine did the same when I did my swap. I was told the 5speed in 1st is a lot louder do to a straight cut gear.

 

Mine has allways made a howl noise. Never had a trans problem.

 

my 5 speed is loud in first too. no problems yet (knock on wood)!!!!!!

 

My 5spd also screams in first gear lol.

 

Does it go away in 2nd gear?
Is it even louder after climbing RPMs in 1st then just letting off the gas?

This is scary to hear, but normal nonetheless.

@WannaRace. Yes noise goes away when shifting into 2nd. Howling is only between 2k to 4k rpm in 1st gear.

I was scared of this howling npise from first gear at first, but like everyone else said, this is a normal sound for 5 speed transmission.

 

I have the same issue. Dosent bug me much though.

I've ridden in many 5 speed evos that did this and wondered why my car didn't, now I know

 

still looking man. Cant find anything good and if i find something decent they want a arm and a leg. I dont miss mine in particular but i do miss a evo if that makes sense.
