Last weekend I made some drag races with my Evo IV. In the last race when stopping the car I listen this sound. I checked the tcase and saw oil sediment.then I changed it a thicker oil but the sound always does every time stronger. My evo is daily drive, so I couldnt take off the tcase until the next week =(. Maybe someone can tell me is this sound if tcase or what? Remember its an Evo 4 not 8 or 9.

 

Sounds familiar. Sorry to say it is your transfer case ring and pinion.

 

That's what it sounds like. You'll be fine for awhile, it will just be very annoying lol. I drove around with a bad ring and pinion in my rear diff for about 6 months and I had no ill side effects. Just make sure that the sound is coming from the front and not the rear.

 

that's the death wine it will get louder as you continue to drive it. Start shopping for a Tc i just had to change mines and also make sure to fill with the proper oil either Diaqueen or heavy shockproof gear oil by redline that's what i used GL5.Its one of the mosy annoying thing to drive with.
