Pull the oil pan and take the rod caps off for a start.

I would pull the valve cover and look for anything out of place, excessive wear on the cam lobes, etc.

thanks for the replies guys! Im going to check all of the following when my friend lets me use his shop, if it is the valve train what exactly would i need to rebuild it for a larger power band? I know springs and retainers, but any recommendations?

If you have metal shavings its not from the Valve train---its bearings so bottom end.

Not entirely true. It could have eaten up cam or cam journal, or both.

I would start with the bottom end like others have said. Sounds like some sort of bearing failure.

I would definitely track down your issue first then worry about mods, metal shavings is no bueno. You can also drain your oil through some rags or coffee filters to get an idea of the amount of metal that's floating around in there.

Yeah when i drained it yesterday I circled a magnet around the oil and it didn't pick up that much but there were pieces that the magnet couldn't pick up.. I'm guessing it was aluminum shavings? maybe from pistons?

I'd be sending in an oil sample to Blackstone or similar ASAP. They should be able to tell what type of metal it is, and consequently, what is going south. Either way, as others have said, if your seeing a lot of metal in the oil, that is no good. Just because the flakes are small doesn't mean it isn't serous. As you are collecting the oil sample, you cam filter the remaining oil and get a good idea how much metal there is. I'd avoid driving the car until you know what the deal is as well...not sure if that is possible or not.

Check your crank end play. More so if you have a heavy clutch.

If you do not have rod knot at this time.

The babbit face of the bearing is non magnetic.
