How do I identify a transmission?

Hey everybody.

I'm new to Evos and don't know much about them. I recently got a transmission from a guy (in a package trade) but don't know how to identify it. I was told that it was an 6 speed from an MR. Part of the case is broken off from an accident but I was told that all of the internals are good.

As far as identification... there is no VIN tag on the transmission (although, I don't know if there is normally) and only a sticker and a casting stamp. Are these two things enough to determine what it is or am I going to have to open it up to see for sure?

Thanks in advance for you help. I look forward to learning more about everything Evo.

Corey
