removing evo 9 cylinder head?

Hey guys, im in the process of tearing my engine down and im stuck at getting the head off. Didnt get very far I know. Ive removed the exhaust manifold, turbo, downpipe, valve cover, timing belt, disconnected all the sensors, removed the heater hoses, egr valve, all the head studs.

When I go to pull the head up it seems to be stuck to the block right inbetween injector 2 and 3. It will NOT budge. Everywhere else I can lift a tiny bit of the head up which is weird.

Anything I should be looking for/mysterious bolts?

Thanks

are you pulling it straight up? if its cocked a little bit you will have trouble getting it off has to come off even or will catch on the head studs. I would put it back on the block then pull it up evenly..

I did not see that you mentioned removing the intake manifold because it has a bracket connected to the block. There is also a bracket that connects to the end of the intake manifold (passenger side) that connects to the alternator bracket as shown below. I modified mine per Curt Brown's recommendation so you don't have to mess with it when removing the intake in the future.

Most likely intake manifold bracket bolts ...There should be two holding it down to the block from the back under the intake manifold

Everything, the alternator bracket is off. The intake manifold bracket is off. There's gotta be something going on. All the studs are out of the head completely. Its making me go nuts. Ive been trying to lift it off the block for 2 hours lol

Mivec line?

You probably already got that but sounds like the IM bracket.....that's right where it is. Just pull the IM before the head comes off.....It will make it easier to spot anything.

Yeah, after I typed that I figured as much....that is why I changed it....LOL

Don't forget to drain the antifreeze out of the radiator......liquid levels out itself....

Pull the studs first if you can....it just makes it easier taking the head all the way off.

There isn't anything else there.....maybe it is just stuck on. Rock it back and forth, mine took a bit to get off as well.

Here is a pic after mine was off, right before it was going back on and you can see there isn't anything there, just the Mivec line and that IM support but mine didn't have one.

If you look at the MIVEC line there is a 10mm bolt in the middle of the block that I believe attaches to the head. Look at the picture in the above post.

Well 240z you were right man about the alternator bracket lol. I was an idiot and didn't realize it connected to the intake manifold. I took out the bolt on the alternator bracket that connects to the water pump, that's all I though was needed but I was wrong. Thanks a ton for all the help guys!

Glad to hear and modify the bracket so you don't have to mess with it in the future.

That's good.

So, what did you find?
Did you pull the pan like you were thinking?
