Curiosity Question

How much power does the 4G63 engine make without a turbo in Evo's compared with the other vehicles that the engine came in?

Less power considering that compression ratio is significantly lower in turbo-ed engines than NA engines.

Kinda figured that the low compression would hurt, but the head flows much better so I figured that it would be a wash. Just wondering if any one has ever dynoed one.

The EVO's head is decent, but is intended to provide good torque and sufficient power for a utilitarian passenger car as opposed to something like a Honda F20C, which was designed for a different purpose and has a far better flowing head. Raising the static compression ratio by 2 full points (e.g. 8.8 -> 10.8) for NA applications would be worth about a 10% torque increase across the board under ideal conditions, but even so, an EVO 2.0L 4G63 with no turbo and OE style exhaust manifold would be in the neighborhood of 150-160hp with factory head and cams.

I agree with Ted, a quick perusal of the cars Mitsubishi put the non-turbo 4G63 into shows they were all rated around 140-150 hp. Assume advances in technology and efficiency in more modern engines, and you're probably looking at right around the 150-160 mark for a "modern" OEM-like naturally aspirated 4G63...
