Driveshaft rubber part is torn, needs replacement. What is the part called? Pics insi
I'm fairly certain that's a cv joint, and that is simply the boot. You should be able to take the shaft to a competent driveline shop to have it fixed/replaced. You won't be able to do it yourself. The shaft needs to come apart to replace that, and will need to be balanced after it goes back together.
That'd be the lobro joint boot. They've used that whole setup forever so the nice thing is you can buy the boot kit which comes with boot, band and gaskets. But if yours is trashed because the boot was ripped then the joint itself is 280 ish. If you need a how to on how to replace search lobro joint on YouTube and a guy who's named jafromobile or something like that has a great video.
Which site can I buy this boot kit from? My tuner says that he's gonna have to source a used driveshaft, new driveshaft, or work with a local driveshaft shop to make a custom piece because Mitsubishi doesn't offer any parts to repair the driveshaft.
you cannot replace the u-joints, but the carrier bearings and the lobro joint is replaceable. lancershop.com has the whole lobro joint and I'm sure just the boot kit as well but they're kinda hard to figure out parts cuz their descriptions suck, and they have no pictures. I'm looking for the parts myself to refresh my driveline, STM found the carrier bearings for me, front one is $62 and rear one is $60, but they weren't sure on the lobro joint boot kit since it's not a part that Mitsubishi "makes". Soon as I find the part numbers I will let you know. But if you have the 1200-1500 to spend then a new driveline would probably be good because then the u-joints are serviceable. Not to mention an oem driveline new is 1600 so just a few options.
Ok the boot kit's part number is MB505119, and the whole lobro joint assembly in case yours is totally shot is 3405A010 on lancershop.com. The boot kit is $60 ish dependent on where you get it from and lancershop wants 266 for the whole joint. Sounds expensive but a lot cheaper than a whole new driveshaft.
Edit: After a little more research between homework assignments it seems some people are complaining about an inability to order the boot kit anymore so I would just call and confirm that the part is available before placing an order for it.

Yeah I didn't find that kit on their either. But I did fine a boot kit advertised on jnztuning.com but I have never done business with them so I can't comment on that and I'm not sure if they actually have the kit or if they just haven't taken down the advertising for it, so you might try giving them a call to see if they still have one in stock, or you might try your local Mitsubishi dealer and see if after you give them the part number if they can get their hands on it. I would have verified with stm if its still something you can get but they aren't open on the weekends and they're who I usually go through for OEM parts since there's no more Mitsubishi dealers in Alaska.
Just for boring information, what usually cuts the boot is bending the driveshaft at the joint. I am so **** about this that I made a fixture I attach to the driveshaft before pulling it to hold it straight at the joint. Cut the boot and you've got trouble. I think the dealer response will be to buy a new driveshaft although they sold kits for DSMs that have the same joint.

I didn't see an Evo 8 lobro joint kit, only one's for dsms. After checking with PSI and a specialty driveshaft shop and after researching online, I've come to the conclusion that there are NO DRIVESHAFT LOBRO JOINT KITS AVAILABLE for Evo 8s. I'll have to buy an aftermarket driveshaft or take a chance at buying a used one.
