K&N website states HP-1008 is correct filter for EVO VIII. HP-1010 is for 2003 Lancer. But, oddly enough, HP-1008 is stated for 2004 Lancer with 2.0L engine.

Hey All,
I just bought a dozen genuine mitsu filters from these guys for 5.22 a pop. Free delivery too. They also have the crush washers. Cheaper than Mobil1 filters!

Why are you guys putting those SMALL filters on your EVO when they were made for the Lancer? Don’t you realize the EVO filter is BIGGER for a reason? It has to filter MORE oil than the standard Lancer. 5qts Vs 4qts.
if you do a cross reference on the MZ690116 Filter you come up with this:
MITSUBISHI MZ690116 = L14459
The L14459 is a purolator filter part number. Then once you have the part number you can see what vehicles use this filter.
This is an Example:
MITSUBISHI
3000GT
V6 3.0L F.I. Turbo (VIN K) (DOHC)
1993-
1994
MITSUBISHI
3000GT
V6 3.0L F.I. Twin Turbo (VIN K)

Notice how this filter is used on V6 engines? They have larger oil capacities and NEED a larger filter to keep up with the demand of the engine. I bet that ALL other filter companies will say the same thing too.
Do your selves a favor and get the right filter and don’t always believe what an auto parts store tells you.

Looking at images of filter innards is all fine and good but what it's all about is the bypass valve pressure, flow rates, filtration, and burst pressure. If the guys in Japan with the engineering degrees say use Mitsu part number MZ690116 then hey, why not? At five bucks a pop you'll save a few bucks over Mobil1 and you run zero risk of any warranty hassles. They also have a nice o-ring seal which is more than can be said for the Mobil1 filter.

FWIW, the L14459 (but get the PL14459 which is better if you are using Purolater) is the SAME one used in HONDA/ACURA/ISUZU and thus fits a billion cars on the planet---all of which have small 4-bangers. Just want to be sure you know this since you listed Mitsu 6 engines in cross-reference.
Anyone used an AMSOIL filter? Want to comment on it?
