need advice.

Hi guys. New to this site. I got an 03 evo 8. All stock and got a timing belt failure. I took head off and saw valves broken & marked 2 of the pistons. I needed advice if its better to just buy a long block motor or I can still have it rebuild. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

^^^ If you were not looking at a pile of parts when you took it apart then likely you can get a rebuild done and its all ok. Maybe your lucky and just a head rebuild with a couple of new valves and a valve job.

Thanks for the reply guys. Sorry if I wasn't more specific. I'm asking between getting a long block or having it rebuild to know which one would be a money saver. I've search and some are saying rebuilding the whole engine could go up $5000-$8000. I've even seen up to $12k. While long block goes to around 3k-5k on eBay which I'm kinda hesitating in case it would just be more problems. Again guys. Thanks for the advice!

I thought of doing that too and just rebuild the head and put it back together. But would the mark on the piston create a hot spot? The walls seems to be fine. I just want to make sure and like what some people say in working on cars. Do it once and do it right!
Its been a rough winter for me. After spending $1k in parts this is what happened. People giving me **** like why would you even buy such a car or you should have stick to american kind of things. But I always tell them that the car didn't do anything and pretty much its the owners fault which is me. I love my car and cant wait to have it running. Thanks again guys!

No mystery. Stock/used replacement will be cheaper because it's less labor. The 12k is mostly labor. Other than that it's about what your future plans are.

I'll stay running it stock. So I probably go with the long block then. I see some JDM engines online. Would that be a problem putting in? mostly on compatibility part? I can see that its similar but I don't know if my old harness and ecm/computer will work. Please advice. Thanks!

Depends on how deep the mark is

My thing is if its not smooth for the motor its coming out, I would be nervous if that scrape would cause bits of metal to flake off the piston due to the heat and compression, you never know what will happen
