WaveTrac fluid of choice
WaveTrac fluid of choice
I have a WaveTrac inbound and after searching for the best fluid to use I didn't get a clear answer. What fluid should I use in the Tcase? What fluid should I use in the trans? I'm confused because the diff itself uses fluid from the trans;differential is sealed off from the tcase ring and pinion. I emailed Autotech(Wavetrac master US distributor) and they said to use Motul 300 75w90. But is that suggested for the tcase or the trans?
I had my tcase rebuilt by jacks with a wave trac and they only warrantee their work with the Redline heavy shockproof gear oil so that's what I use and haven't had a problem, other than that oem diaqueen lsd is your best bet. As for trans I use redline MT-85, It's a toss up between the mt-85, the redline cocktail or oem diaqueen 75-85. I've tried the diaqueen and the trans feels like it shifts better with the redline oil to me. And the diff in the tcase doesn't use the fluid from the trans, it has its own fluid in the tcase (redline heavy or diaqueen lsd) unless you are talking about a wavetrac to replace the front diff inside the the trans, in which case idk.

I also just got my trans and t-case rebuilt by Jack's and had them put in a Wavetrac. When I got the Wavetrac manual it clearly says not to use any Shockproof oil as the diff won't function as intended. I bought the recommended oil for trans/t-case from Jack's and they sent me Redline MT-90 for the trans and Redline Shockproof for the t-case. I was pretty pissed so I emailed them and this is what they told me:
"The transfer case is a multi-chambered assembly. The front differential is lubricated with whatever you put inside of the transmission. The ring/pinion portion of the transfer case is lubricated by, in this case, the Shockproof fluid. There are several seals / o-rings in between these assemblies to prevent the fluids from mixing. The wording from Wavetrac is poor, in that it does not tell you the front differential uses transmission oil."

This is true the front diff is fed by the trans. I talked to Tim at Jacks, and Shep today and was recommended Mt-90 for trans and diaqueen or shockproof for tcase, seeing as I don't drag race my car, just track days and autox I'll use the diaqueen.
