Timing belt noise after install

I've changed Evo 8 timing belts a few times now and never ran into this. I out a new oem belt in today and it's making a whirring noise, gets louder when I rev it. Head was just rebuilt and put S3 cams in. Do bigger cams make this noise or is my belt way to tight? I'll try and post a video later. There's no slack in the belt at all.

The only time to judge if the tension is correct was when you set it. If the grenade pin slid in and out of the new tensioner freely the tension is correct. This should be checked after a few minutes have elapsed because the tensioner is slow to adjust.

If you have the balance shafts that belt can also make noise if too tight. The service manual say to press on the belt between the sprockets with a pressure of 22 lbs. and the belt should deflect between 0.20 and 0.27 inches.

The fix was redoing the tension, I had it way to tight, I forgot to set and recheck the grenade pin

sounds about right. i get impatient doing mine because it does take some time to get it just right.. but i know it's not a detail to skimp on.

good that you remembered before burning up anything! nothing like that "aha!" feeling when you solve a mysterious issue with the car.
