evo 9 turbo installation.

Hello,
I'm thinking about pulling out my evo8 turbo and put in the evo9 turbo in but wanted to know what is the most challenging part of the removal/installation process?,
and is it necessary to remove the exhaust header ?
much thanks for any feedback or a how to links.

Yes you will need to remove the exhaust manifold in order to even get the turbo out of the engine pay. This was a fairly straight forward removal and reinstall.

I was afraid of that, herd when re-install the header it'll need to be resurface both on the header and the engine block.

No, you don't. Just replace the exhaust manifold gasket. And the studs if you want.
And although not completely necessary, remove the radiator. I can almost guarantee that you will bump the radiator at least once while trying to get the turbo in / out and the radiator fins bend very easily.

Pretty easy job.. But if i was you i would drain the coolant and pull the radiator. Gives you a bunch more room.

Remove the radiator or you're going to have a bad time haha, takes minutes to remove the radiator and you won't risk banging it up and cutting the **** out of your hands

A lot of websites say you are not supposed to reuse that pipe but I did when I put a 20g on my car. It's been fine, just make sure you use new oem washers on the bolts that are on the oil pan side because they have a little rubber seal on each washer that will leak if reused. You might want to put a little grey permatex on the washers too, I did and they have never leaked.

Did your kit come with a 9 j-pipe? 'cause the one on the 8 wont work. Most of the conversion kits I've seen don't come with that pipe only the oil and coolant lines.

Yup, mine came with the j pipe. Anyone have the part number for that oil pan pipe to the turbo?, looks like some of the gasket weld onto it, might end up buying from the dealer ship.

you can use the same oil return line but it is a real pain and you have to bend it alot

Op don't be surprised when dealer will ask $7 for paper gasket lol.and yeah you can reuse Evo 8 oil return but be prepared to bend it.good luck.oh,and make sure to chance the gasket on that oil return line that goes from the turbo.cause in case it's leaky and turbo is mounted it's not gonna be fun to replace it.good luck.

Update!!!

I just finishing up putting everything together , primed the turbo then start the car, smoke starts coming from below the turbo once it warms up followed by clicking noises.
Any suggestion ?
