Don't know about ticking noise but smoke is probably from leaky oil return line gasket on the turbo turbo side.I had the same.I let the car idle and aimed flash light at that part of turbo where oil return line attached.I did it from underneath the car.and I saw oil seeping slowly. that was enough
to create smoke

Get under the car while its running and make sure no oil is leaking. Did you clean everything when you bolted stuff back on? Where is the clickin noise coming from? Video the noise might help pin point where and why.

smoke could also be from your greasy hands touching the turbo during install

no i did not cleaned the oil from the turbo prior to installation , i did considered that it may be the case but is not.

I checked under the car no oil seeping , however their is oil on top of the turbo.
Here is the pic showing the oil siting on the turbo. I've re-tighten the bolt but oil keeps showing up here.

Did you clock the turbo? Did you mess with that clamp at all?

Nope I did not fidget with it. This evo 9 turbo is built with a anti-surge housing.
Not that it matters . Smoke smell like burn oil , not exhaust fumes nor coolant.
Tail pipe smoke is normal.
Perhaps a bad build.

Take your intake off and see if the wheel is hitting anything or making any sort of noise. Also check if there is any oil build up in there.

Ticking could be manifold or turbo gasket leak. Had that issue before. Id pull the dp elbow and see if there is any oil in the exhaust side

had not have the time to pull things apart , but i drive and check the oil level frequently.
if oil level drop probably a leak ect.
The smoke have subsided i assumed that maybe it was the oil that keeps the turbo from rusting.
