Where to order oem 4g63 engine?

Hey everyone, I have a dilemma I need help with.

(By the way, I drive a 2006 Evo 9 RS model.)

My car was in an accident and now the Mitsu Dealership says it needs a new motor. But apparently my insurance doesn't want to pay for a new motor, so they're looking for a used one. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a used 2.0L 4G63 motor? Hopefully something under some kind of warranty that's significantly cheaper than a brand new one?

As far as I know it needs to have all the gaskets, cylinders, etc.

Thanks
-Brian

why would you want a used motor? you pay for your insurance to make sure they cover things like this, make sure they get you a new motor.

Why will insurance only cover a used motor? Is there some sort of cap on the cost to replace the engine? The challenge with a used motor is that you have no clue as to how it was previously driven and cared for.

Why do you need a new motor in the first place? Is the block cracked from the impact? If so you may want to make sure it's even worth fixing the car as an impact of that magnitude must have tweaked the frame.

Hey thanks for the responses everyone.

So after talking more with my dealer and insurance adjuster I have a little bit more insight to whats going on. Apparently, the process for replacing an engine in a damaged car, is to first contact salvage yards for used. The engine must have equal to or less miles on it, and the salvage yards they buy from put them under warranty. I think it all has to do with cost, otherwise they'd go straight to purchasing a new motor. Anyways, there was a bit of confusion this morning and I was under the impression that they would ONLY replace my engine with a used one, that's why I jumped on here to get some help finding one. ...but if they don't find one, they're gonna drop in a new one. So long as my insurance approves the cost/labor.

As far as why it needs a new engine... The accident I was in did damage to the front end, but appeared to not have any damage to the engine. The engine seemed to run fine when I picked it up, except for the fact that it constantly stalled when coming to a stop. Replaced the battery (which it was due for), then it stalled out less. The dealer diagnosed that it needed a new throttle body, drove with the old one for about a week while waiting for my insurance to approve the part. One day I started hearing odd sounds and the stalling got dramatically worse. That day I had the car towed into the shop and my insurance made the approval on the TB. Once the dealer got the car they test drove it, they told me they heard a loud thud and the CEL came on. They got approval from my insurance to diagnose it and they found metal shavings in the engine or something.

I'm no mechanic, so I'm unsure exactly what caused all of these issues. All I know is that the car was in tip top shape before the accident, and now it's a hot mess. My fingers are crossed that they drop in a new engine, cuz it's too late for them to total out the car. We'll see...

Sorry my situation kind of changed, mods feel free to lock this topic. I'm no longer searching for a used replacement engine, just waiting on the dealer/insurance as of now. Thanks again.

Take the insurance payout instead (i.e., the value of the estimated repairs). Then you can decide how best to use the money. I would suggest using this as an opportunity to do a built engine.

100mm crank + stock size rods + 0.04" overbore pistons = almost 2.4 L!
