Motor build / performance questions

I’ve got a few (rather dumb) questions, I’ve been away from the Evo game for a while and just purchased one with a built motor. I’ve owned three Evos before (these cars are too addicting) and my first one had a built motor, but I was more familiar with it since it was done while I owned the car.

My new Evo has an AMS HTA35R turbo kit, and as far as the motor goes, here’s the list.

Wiseco stock bore pistons, Pauter Rods, Clevite bearings, ARP head studs and main studs Cosworth M3 cams, Supertech Dual Valve springs

With a setup like this, what is a recommended shift point? My last Evo 9 was on the stock turbo, which is running out of steam in the higher RPMS, so taking it over 7K was kinda pointless.

Another question/issue - I’ve searched the forum and it’s more of a personal preference thing, so there’s not much out there; the exhaust on the car is the Tanabe Gold Medallion TBE, and I don’t wanna offend anyone on here who has one, but I’m just not entirely satisfied with the sound of it. It is loud of course with a turbo / motor setup like this, which is understandable, but I liked the sound of my HKS hi-power (?) on my old IX - a big 3.5 or 4” that was loud, but sounded good in my opinion. I’ve been thinking of switching to perhaps an ETS, just the regular one, but with a test pipe and probably 3.5 or 4”. I know ETS makes good products, and from the videos, they seem to sound pretty good..any feedback? I’d rather not go crazy expensive, and performance is more important than staying quiet, but I would like it to sound good.

If anyone has any info / advice / opinions on this stuff, I would love to hear it. Thanks!

We offer a large 3.5" exhaust system for the Evo 8/9 in stainless steel or titanium.

So basically you have a built 2.0. Am I correct in saying you experience full boost around 5500 rpm? Anyway, the turbo shouldn't run out of steam until 8,000 ~ 8,500 RPM on a 2.0. But if you're planning to leave your stock limiter then just shift near the rev limiter.

ETS is good. I like their titanium exhaust. I have a friend that used to have an ETS 4" or 3.5" on his Evo... Sounded amazing.
