Early Mivec Cosworth Cams

Cant really seem to find any info... Did Cosworth ever stand behind their product and replace these cams before they broke? I just checked, and the car I just bought has these failure prone cams. Cosworth UK has been unresponsive, so have most of the larger Cosworth dealers in the country. I just want to know for sure if there is any way for me to get this replaced or if I am just going to put some stock cams back in for now until I decide what to replace them with.

Well, not surprised, same response I've gotten everywhere else. Shocking.

I'm not sure where the "Failure Prone" comes from, when you consider the thousands that where produced and only a hand full of failures. When aggressive MIVEC tuning is involved, any cam will stress. And your asking Cosworth to replace a used cam from a used car?
I still run the original Cosi M2's, bought used in 08 and still DD every day for the past six years. My suggestion is to first re-tune with a reputable tuner for piece of mind, before replacing parts that aren't broke.

This crossed my mind. New car to me, a bit spooked. The number of breakages did seem low to me considering the number of cams out there.
My tuner was the one who told me about the problem.
Okay, so conservative MIVEC tuning, what is the tradeoff, can I be more aggressive with stock cams and get the same power with peace of mind?

You really don't need the MIVEC part of the tune to be aggressive to have great results. There's other area's that will produce the power output, per the parts that are on the car. If you want more, then you'll have to start looking at bigger turbo with supporting mods. You can look at some of the maps that are in the ECU Tuning threads for aggressive and conservative MIVEC maps.
If you really start digging in here, you'll find snapped cams from just about every manufacturer, except maybe FP. The question is, does less then 1% failure rate make you feel comfortable or not.

Thank you for this. All i wanted to do was start a conversation, this helps a lot. Car also has ATP 3037 kit and what I believe to be an Apexi intercooler, and RC 1000s.Definitely looking for longevity here, and a motor build is not in the budget any time soon, still trying to get through to the wife that it was ok to spend more and wait longer for an RS. Next I need to find out exactly which cams they are. That's probably in the cam specs sticky.
