Unhappy Trans/diff.

Was going to buy a 04 Evo for my next car but now you guys got me thinking some more because of the trans/diff. problems. What's a man to do Evo/wrx/r32??

I'm beginning to wonder this myself! Only problem is that I have an 03 EVO with 500 miles! All these complaint posts are making me wonder if I made the right choice - Owning an 03' WRX prior, I can tell you that I had a lot of fun...but comparing the regular WRX to the EVO is no comparison! I felt like I left the kiddie rides, and went to a roller coaster! Now if you meant the STI, I don't know what to tell you (I personally am not impressed ny what I've read/heard, but have not driven one yet). I was also looking at the R32. The only thing I didn't like about is was VW's recent history - it seems like their car quality has fallen! I'm also not impressed by the R32 perfomance #'s - you would think with that much torque/HP, that it's #'s would be higher...no turbo must make a bug difference!! But like you said with all the EVO probs people are having...I'm beginning to wonder if there is a clear choice here!

Take the number of transmission and center diff problems by member and add them up. You see that the numbers are actually low for the 5000 cars sent over. Any car will have it few defects in a few that come off the line. Doesn't mean they are all bad. There are plenty of cars that are modded out there and running 11s with no problems.

never compare an r32 to an evo, don't even compare it to a wrx. people will see how foul those cars are in comparison once thet start hitting the street and the track.

I have a Grand Prix GTP (essentially the same powertrain as a Monte SS) and it is a totally different beast. Great to haul your 4 buddies around in, but not a canyon carver AT ALL.

The Monte, however, will 'please' more passengers. Less rough of a ride, touch more 'refined' interior. But it's not a drivers car.

you're going to find similar manufacturing problems with any auto manufacturer you purchase from, so just bite the bullet and get the EVO you really want.

i switched from VW... here are a few things i knew about
1. heated seats catch fire
2. coil packs on 1.8Ts catch fire
3. window regulators break, smashing your window into your door
4. child seat something
