I had a few questions about radiator fan on evo8.


1. At what coolent temp does it turn on?
2. Will the radiator fan always be ON when I turn the on the AC? Or is it dependent on coolent temperature always.


My car is heating up at idle when ac is turned on. Evoscan figures showed coolent temps around 230 F. If I turn the air conditioner off, I can let my car idle for 45 mins and coolent temp never crosses 203. . The radiator fan also seems to go on and off and keep the temp 203 or below. When I turn the ac that's when problem occurs. It looks like radiator fan does not work with Ac turned on or turns off quickly.

It is hot where I live and temperatures are hovering around 110 here. Car has no problem when it is in motion. I am running a tubular exhaust manifold with a slim radiator fan.

 

I can't speak for Evos specifically, but on most vehicles I've worked on, the electric fan(s) are on all the time when the AC is on.

AC on - fan on
AC off - fan on when ECT tells it to turn on

As for what controls the fan when you engage the AC, I couldn't say. Hope this helps to give you an idea as to what you're up against.
