Hesitation with COP system

So I bought a spoolinup diy cop system and it works great. Throttle response is improved and the car runs smoother.

The only issue I am having is that the car hesitates/studders occasionally. It doesn't do it everyday, just every once in a while.

I thought it might be the wiring (this is the diy kit so I did it myself) but I've double and triple-checked the wiring and it seems OK.

Does this sound like an issue with one of the coils rather than the wiring? Seems like if it was a wiring issue it would happen a lot more often. The coils were purchased used so I'm thinking they could be the culprit.

What do you think? Wiring or coils?

Yes it does but since i cant use the cop wiring or coils with the stock system this doesnt tell me whether or not the issue is coming from that wiring or coils of the cop system*

well, you know it's the COP, so maybe it's defective and you can return it?

if the problem goes away with the oem coils then send the cop system to spoolinup and have them take a look at it!

This is the diy kit so I did the wiring myself and I didn't purchase the coils from spoolinup. Therefore, there is nothing under warranty so I can't send it to him.

I'm looking for opinions as to whether the symptoms are indicative of a wiring or coil issue.

we can't help you with that. you have to test the system.

Your comment suggests a faulty wiring and a faulty coil would cause the same thing. Correct?

Is there a link you could provide that provides instructions for testing the coils?

The comments thus far seem to be treating the cop as a single component when there are two components, each of which could be causing the problem.

I don't know how to test the coils by themselves but you should be able to narrow it down. With the stock setup and the COP you made you can keep swapping parts until you figure out if it's coils or wiring. Put half of your stock setup back on. If the issue goes away it's one of the coils or wiring you took out. If it doesn't, it's one of the coils or wiring that you left in. Once you've figured out which half of the COP is bad swap coils and see if it goes away. If it doesn't go away it's the wiring, if it does it's one of your coils.

The parts aren't interchangeable. That won't work.

you can technically run cylinders 1-4 off stock and 2-3 off COP without the mounting plate. can't drive it like that but can start and idle

Make sure you have all 3 wires coming into and out of the harnesses, make sure they are all secured into the harness, and not just barely in there. Check plug gap, ensure .022-.024 spark plug gap (evo 8/9, as this is the 1-9 forums but showing you drive a X). And lastly make sure you upgraded the fuse from i think a 10 to a 15

A lot of tuners I see are asking their customers to ditch the COP setups. I've never heard WHY. I had the Spoolin Up and my car ran better on stock coils but I assumed that's because I bought the "used coil"option. I assumed I just got a lame set.

But all this has me wondering....
