Yes, there are some MAP turbos that are running flawlessly, but I believe they've changed providers / producers of the turbine housings for a less expensive alternative thus the ongoing issues with the current lineup of MAP turbos.

I'm not making assumptions, I've read somewhere on EvoM that they have made revisions of the turbine housings previously (forgot when this was), but it seems this is the cause of such revisions.

And MAP not answering to this thread of numerous turbo issues is not helping their cause whatsoever, which also builds up suspicion in a sense as to their silence...

My ef2.5 was purchased back in Thanksgiving 2012 , had one minor issue of the wastegate flapper/arm assembly able to move. Sent it back to map and it was taken care of

Received it back and has been running fine since, take into mind my 2.5 was purchased as soon as the news hit that MAP was producing these units.

Sounds to me like the company is slacking off majorly... which in turn, drives away customers.

Op, have you gotten any closer to a definitive answer to the problem? I purchased a MAP EF 3 turbo in late July and have had issues with tuning and getting the "proper" amount of power for the set up. Curious to know what is causing boost to come on so late. I'm having a similar issue.

Glad I saw this thread, been contemplating a bigger (stock housing) turbo either from MAP of FP. I hope MAP gets their act together and take care of their issues with these turbos. Good luck to you by the way on the money refund or repair of turbo.

Considering MAP is not even responding at all is very interesting.

I purchased an EF3 a while ago, I never got to install it though. I sold it to a member on here and he ran it for a while. Not really sure what became of it.

In my case, I am extremely disappointed from the way the turbo failed. It snapped on the 9th pull, and it wasn't making power like it should have before it died.

Although in their defense, they did answer the same day I sent James an email and Bill sent me the RMA form. We will see what happens when they inspect it and what will be the turn around time. Will make my own thread once the situation progresses.

I apologize for our delayed response here guys; We have keyword alerts set up for this very reason but apparently this thread slipped through the cracks. We pride ourselves on prompt responses and I am certain that my team has been more responsive in the OP's direct communications.

I'm very sorry to hear of these issues and I can certainly appreciate how frustrating these experiences must have been for you. Your feedback is welcomed as we are constantly looking for ways to improve our products.

evo8htagreen: I would greatly appreciate if you would send me an email (my email address is in my signature) with your contact information so that I can personally dig into our findings from the initial failure. Once I have a better understanding of the situation I will respond with options that will hopefully lead to an amicable resolution.

ODUB: From what I recall my associate Nate was working with you and Kevin in May to pursue a resolution. If that did not happen please feel free to reach out to me as outlined above.

Evo9_Dubai: Please continue working with James and Bill to assess the situation. If need be you are more than welcome to contact me directly as well.

Information regarding previous wastegate flapper issues (Evo X only) can be found here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ve...ers-evo-x.html

Additionally, here is some information in regards to metallurgy upgrades (again, Evo X only) that were implemented earlier this year: http://www.maperformance.com/blog/ma...x-89-redesign/

The revised turbine housings are significantly more expensive than previous iterations, but with even sparse reports of warping issues from previous versions we decided that the investment was necessary.

There are many things that could also be causing poor spool. What else have you checked and eliminated as a possibility?
Thank you for your contributions to this thread sir. While we are certainly not perfect I have found that turbochargers are frequently used as a scapegoat for issues or shortcomings elsewhere in the system. By no means am I suggesting that is what is happening with the aforementioned turbos, but we recently had a customer with spool issues discover that the previous owner had used 3 head gaskets at one point significantly lowering the compression ratio of the engine!

Also a few years ago with the DW300 fuel pump they didnt have in stock. Sold it to me with out saying this went with them since they tested it.
I'm very sorry to hear of your poor experience sir. Am I correct in assuming that you are located in the Dominican Republic as indicated in your profile? I imagine that to be the case as that is the only reason I can think of that would prompt us to wait for all of your items prior to shipping. We certainly should have been more transparent at the time your order was placed in regards to our inventory levels, but the only other option would have been to ship the spark plugs in a separate shipment; A very costly endeavor when it comes to international shipping.

In regards to drop shipping, it is a necessary evil in this industry I'm afraid. At any given time we have nearly $500,000 worth of inventory on hand and the vast majority of it applies to the Evolution platforms; I would be quite surprised to discover another vendor that stocks more. However, that is only scratching the surface in comparison to the entirety of products that are available.

With that being said, do you really expect any company to cover the "cost" of you removing and installing a turbo?

Also whoever said about MAP having horrible shipping, are you serious? Anything I buy from them goes from MN to PA in literally two days to my door.

Map/ FP screw them all. I stick to the big oem's because garret / borg / mitsu / IHI KKK have real standards unlike these small time operations.

Its not fair to paint MAP as a bad company based on a few reviews. I have only delt with MAP on the phone when I was building my engine and they were more than helpfull in answering my questions. I told them at the start of the conversation that my engine was being built locally but I had a few qusetions to ask. The gentleman answered all my questons and even told me what has worled for them in the past. He spent 45mins on the phone with me knowing that I was not calling to purchase an item.

I have had horrible customer service dealings with FP but I cant say that they are a bad company. The induvidual I delt with was bad but we all have those peeps at work that just suck at their job and get by skating. To come on here and blast a company is the wrong way to handle the situation in most cases. Talk to the boss, most owners are more then happy to get things fixed for you.

Our Evo 9 turbine housings are sourced from a different supplier and have not been experiencing the warping issues that occurred with our Evo X variations to my knowledge.

Man right when I had my next turbo in mind... Really wanted an EF3 for next spring.

Bad shipping, Warping issues? Yeah this is pushing me back towards the MHI I think.

I can certainly understand your apprehension, but I hope you can appreciate that this thread represents a very small sample set. I encourage you to google search reviews for my company and judge for yourself. As the old saying goes "A happy customer tells a friend; an unhappy customer tells the world."

dsm guys have been running the 3065 into the 9s for ages. plenty of 550whp setps around. it spools faster than 35r. PERIOD ..many have switched to 35r and noted the extra lag.

the gtx 3076 is the exception. its just way too much compressor wheel for the turbine. its at that point the 35 turbine is a must have.
I stand corrected then, let me clarify that my experience is due to the 3076 and not with the smaller GT30 turbos

We have been dealing with this since may. My car got sent to Kevin in January for a rebuild. I picked the car up in May to take home, and that's when all of this started. My car is still just sitting waiting with no turbo, with no end in sight. All I want is a refund. Kevin has sent everything to MAP short of the entire car.
