Once I get it back I go to put take it to the dyno for a tune I find out the reason my car ain't hitting full boost until 5500 rpm is cuz the wastegate flapper isn't sealing completely. I preloaded it to the max and it still isn't enough. Wasted another 200 for dyno time and couldn't get a complete tune. Now map wants me to pay to send turbo back again to fix it. I just want my money back and they won't refund it. Paid $1500 for a new turbo that's been nothing but problems.
Unfortunate situation, but this is the nature of things.

How do you know the wastegate isn't sealed properly? Did you take it out for visual inspection?

That's what my tuner told me. He said he has had problems with the wastegate arm being too long. The car starts hitting boost at 4k but don't reach full boost until 5500

I am assuming that when your tuner refers to "wastegate", he means wastegate actuator(WGA), and not wastegate puck(flapper valve). When he says that the "arm" is too long, he means that the actuator rod is too long.

What actuator is your MAP turbo fitted with? Is it the MAP/Turbosmart actuator, the factory MHI IX actuator or some other unit? If the flappper valve is not sealing flat on the its seat it can as the tuner suggests be due to an overly long actuator rod. So, remove the actuator(a simple task) and cut about 4 threads off the tip of the actuator rod, run it without the backup nut and tighten the turnbuckle down all the way down clockwise.

Before you get too riled up about it all keep in mind your tuner probably is giving his best guess with the WG not sealing and that it isn't factual information yet.

There are many things that could also be causing poor spool. What else have you checked and eliminated as a possibility?

Secure the actuator rod in the jaws of a bench vise. Cut 4 threads off the threaded end of the rod with a hacksaw or Dremel cutoff wheel. Remove and set aside the backup nut that resides behind the turnbuckle tip. Leave that backup nut off. Tighten the turnbuckle down as far as it will go on the actuator rod. Reinstall the modded WGA onto turbo.

Now it is gonna be tough but you will be able to pull the turnbuckle back up onto its residence on the flapper valve's pivot arm. Just use elbow grease and Popeye forearm power. This should keep the flapper valve firmly shut down on its seat. Otherwise it is not actuator related, and you would then most likely have a warped or broken flapper valve.

I've had zero problems with mine and it gets used hard. Sucks to hear about the bearing but it seems like the wastegate thing is hit or miss. Either way it's a pretty simple fix and I would never pay to send one back for that. With that being said, do you really expect any company to cover the "cost" of you removing and installing a turbo?

Also whoever said about MAP having horrible shipping, are you serious? Anything I buy from them goes from MN to PA in literally two days to my door.

Who are you having tune it by the way? I see you are from Pitt so I really hope you drive down to TPG.

Also a few years ago with the DW300 fuel pump they didnt have in stock. Sold it to me with out saying this went with them since they tested it.

I Agree with above 100%

Just like it was said earlier, its not a fact that the wastegate puck wasn't sealing correctly. Curious if that ends up being the issue though since MAP did have some metallurgy or warping issues with their turbine housings a while back. That info sort of disappeared from the search feature here though.

Ouch. I was considering an EF2.5 but I'm skeptical now. What are you going to go with now?

My tuner is jason from tpg. The more I drive the car the worse the spool is. I'd keep preloading the wastegate actuator and it would start spooling better for a while. Now I'm out of room for more adjustment and I do think that the turbine is warping because the more u use it the worse it gets. When the turbo was first put on the spool was close to where it should have been. It continually gets worse.

you might want to remove the intake pipe and check for shaft play.

who told you that the ef2.5 is bigger than an hta green? i was always under the impression that its slightly smaller than an hta green.

I keep going back and forth between an FP Red or a Garett GT30 setup. Im still not sure which one I would prefer.

GT30 get a lot of crap here but I have a friend running a GT3076 on his Evo for around 10 years now and still runs 10s.
