What intake filter to get?

I have a drop in K&N in my 03 VIII with a mail in flash. I've washed & oiled it many times, and am figuring that its time to retire it. Since my air box has seen better days (I'm down to two working latches) I was thinking about loosing that and going with an open element, and am looking at two choices:

Or for $100 more:

The second option might be a better improvement, especially since I've added a high flow cat and cat back and I've discovered the original owner modded the pre-load on the waste gate, making for slightly higher boost (20.5-21 PSI). A more up to date tune is in order. Otherwise its mostly stock.

Is the first option good enough, or is the extra $100 worth it?

Purchase the Vibrant adapter and a Perrin filter.

Chris Carbee from SLOWPOKE tuning is in Virginia Beach right now, you should consider a tune from him he is great. I would ditch the stock air box, I know alot of people have made 400hp with them but I still feel like it limits the turbo.

I use Green Performance filters on my cars but Perrin, AMSOil, and Vibrant all make great filters.

Or you could buy a Samco silicone intake tube, a Vibrant MAF adapter, and a filter of your choosing. I recommend the AMSOIL as I have it now and like not having to worry about oiling it. If you search there's an entire thread of dyno results with different filter setups.

I pulled the box last night and installed the Vibrant MAF adapter and put in the K&N (I'll look into the Amisol filter later). Lots if intake & BOV noise now, feels like its boosting faster; still evaluating it.

It does seems like the idle is off now, slower than it was before, particularly when coming off throttle. Eventually it will drift back towards normal.

Definitely Perrin or Amsoil filter. If you are gonna run the K&N filter then be careful not to overoil it otherwise you will have idle issues.
