Beaten to Death: Piston/Rod Combo

Research with more research, still not finding what I need.

Application: Street/HPDE Evo IX
Fuel: E85
Power Level: 450 on Mustang Dyno 370 ft lbs tq
Turbo: BBK Full Full bolt on car with mild head build
Goal: Reliability at 25psi of boost occasionally enduring 100+ degree HPDE sessions

I have been recommended Wiseco standard pistons (non HD) and Eagle rods by MAP. But I really just want to double check this recommendation. They said the non HD will be good enough for my power level and will be easier on the bore. This option is very cost effective, but if I have to spend more to up reliability factor I will do it.

I can't afford to build this motor again and again. This first go around has cost me about 6K and counting. So I really want to choose wisely on the rods and pistons. Will be using my stock crank.

Don't need some crazy materials or anything super light. Just want something strong and reliable that won't beat up the bore of the block.

I was looking at Oliver Rods and Arias pistons, but it doesn't look like Arias makes pistons specific for evo 9. Can I use their evo 8 pistons without issue? Wasn't sure of fitment.

Thanks all!

Have you tried calling a reputable 4G6X builder?

Well if I ask someone for recommendations who is also selling the parts creates a bit of a conflict of interest. I'm hoping to find people that have tested the parts and tried them on their own car. Through research I know of some products to stay away from, but there are still way too many options.

I'd go with Oliver rods, & Wiseco HD's. While standard wiseco's, and h-beams will work at that power level, if you ever choose to go another route you wont have to worry about your short block.

Hmmm MAP told me the standard Wiseco's would be easier on the bore of the block. Anyone have any feedback on that statement?

less dense material is used so the rotating mass is a little bit lighter. which in turn creates less sidewall loading. There's the famous "To stroke or not to stroke" paper to back up this notion. (read the part where h-beams are used)

I run regular wiseco pistons and h-beams in my evo, and find that it can still hold up to nearly 500whp when I'm on e85. I would suggest the 625 bolts, and always a good tune. Knock can make any setup fail

Thanks! Yah I have pretty much decided on the rods. I'll be going with the Standard Oliver rods. Made in the USA with top notch materials gives me peace of mind.

I don't want to put china steel in a 10,000 dollar motor. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Now to decide on the pistons. I am pretty sure I don't need the HD's at my power level.

Sideloading was the reason I had to pull the block in the first place, but hopefully a less aggressive tune will help with that going forward as well.

I'm starting to think maybe my use of 10w50 oil didn't really help on the stock block. Curious if that had anything to do with the extreme wear on the hone of the block.

I built my 2.3L with standard Wiseco 9.0:1 and Eagles. About 20k miles, 30+ psi and 8300rpm revs. I would go with what MAP said.
