you teeny boppers here are real stupid. first of all the evo is a great car. but the one who said a Z06 sux at handling, you're a real winner. have you ever driven a Z06? Do you know what one even is? you shouldn't open your mouth unless you know what the hell you're talking about. also, since when did ford start charging $45k+ for the Cobra? the guy that wants to bet an evo will beat a Cobra in a straightline, well the guy that made that statement that it won't meant a stock evo won't beat a Cobra. yes you can make an evo fast for a lot of coin but you can do the same to a Cobra.

you kiddies that read magazines really shouldn't be commenting on what's what. until you've driven a certain car you are ripping on you should STFU!

back to the topic on hand.... I SMELL A TROLL... probably drives a STI

I was just trying to say that the EVO is more balanced than the Z 06, oops I didn't know I was gonna start a flame war by just saying the Z06 sucks at handling (i admit I used the wrong word should of said better) but anyway although the Z06 does pull 1G stock, the EVO won the slalom run beating the crovette in average speed, according to motortrend.

oh yeah and the stock quarter mile is 12.4sec not 11s like someone stated

Z06 pulling 1g.. lateral g? continuous or cyclic?
A vette can pull 1g going in a round circle.. good.. can it do the same doing it in a slalom with lateral movements to both sides without losing rear traction? I really dont think so... the physics just isnt there.. come on, guys.. think about it.. 4wd v Rwd... shorter wheel base vs longer wheel base.. in a slalom... the vette can pull 1g because it has a wider wheel base and wider wheels but if you were to unbalance the car like in a slalom.. the rear will simply swing round on you...

I bet you never see a Z06 at the race track or at an Autox (tight turns). Talking about slalom, In national autox events (please dont tell me you beat a Z06 in a local events) a Stock ZO6 can blow any stock class cars away, it just donminated the stock class (please check SCCA result in Topeka in the last 3 years). I asume you never driven a Z06 at all, because if you did, you know that car not only can haul *** but it also can turn. Down side is the cheesy interior and craftmanship...but for around 45000 now its the most bang for the buck sports car out of the factory.

The Z06 & the supercharged Mustang cobra are much quicker than the EVO. The Z06 can also probably out handle the EVO in lots of different ways. I too was disappointed with the EVOs acceleration. It definitely does not match the hype. However, some EVOs are definitely faster than others. I got a slow one Mine knocks like crazy and the ECU pulls timing so much that the car is a bit of a turd. My Integra GSR with a Jackson Supercharger was .3 seconds quicker and 3 mph faster in the 1/4 mile and that's with horrible 60' times of over 2 seconds (no traction at all).
Anyway, I have done a lot to my EVO now. I've got a full 3" turbo back exhaust, HKS intake, injectors, pump, AEM EMS and the cams + Greddy IC are on the way... I certainly hope to make enough power to beat a stock z06 or Cobra after all this, but i'll not be surprised if the car is still not as fast as I'd like. I guess I need to get me one of those "fast EVO' engines....

Get one of your Z06 and tell it to meet an EVO on the Tsukuba Track...

Stop with this Jun and Tsukuba silliness. The Evo is a great car, I own one! I enjoy NHRA import events and import cars! BUT, I'm not stupid. I didn't have enough money to buy a Z06 at the time, so I bought the Evo. I work in the car business so I'm around and drive every type of car you can think of. The Evo is a great car but it's not a Z06 in the engine department. You can make any car fast...as for the proof of a daily driven C5 that's making 1050 horsepower.

How many people have ran a 12.9 (MalibuJack) or 13.1 (Motortrend) on a stock Evo? Almost none! Just like there are almost no people that have ran a 11 on a Z06 stock. Except for a really good driver in Maryland. So forget those statements.

There is no replacement for displacement.
(supposing the technology is both current)

The things I dislike about my Evo:
To make serious power you need racegas
The drivetrain is expensive and slightly weak

The bottom line is...there is always someone faster...but for under $30K, the Evo is hard to beat overall...

Intangibles

My freind drove my EVO last night - he owns a 2002 911 and a Dinan superchaged M3 - he said in all honesty that the EVO was a much easier car to drive fast. He was particulary impressed with the gearing and how much power and speed he pushed out of turns - he wants to take it to the Porsche track event in town - He thinks he will beat everyone (including 911 turbos!)

When I was out to purchase my next car I drove the following cars - my driving impressions included:

Cobra - Probably the worst "fast" car I have ever driven...period -
unbalanced, bloated and trashy.

Z06 - Awesome, but requires perfect roads and weather to
enjoy fully - mustach and pinky ring factor is huge.

M3 - A less powerfull Z06, with German tangibles and intangibles.

STi - More Fun than all the above - yet lacking feel and
sensitivity...especially compared to Z06 and M3.

911-(non-turbo) 2002 - not impressed for the money - I felt the
M3 was far superior even if money was not an issue.

EVO - I found the EVO to be the most balanced, drivable and live car I have ever driven - and with the mods I have now - It's fast enough to have fun in a straight line too....(without having to grow a mullet).

hehe o-man great imput guys!! i really enjoyed this thread well i been babying my car and so far i reached 1000 miles just today! and to reach quicker speeds i found out that i have to be tricky with the gears and clutch because is a 4wd car if i shift quick kinda stalls and goes<know what i mean..>, unlike any rwd or fwd car just burns tire and goes. but i and headed to the mods department for up grades. question what is a turbo back exhaust, is it the same performance as a catback? thanks in advance guys!!
