Try going to a different dealership. I take my OZ to crown mitsu. down on us19 and 34th street? down in st pete. The dealership sucks, but the service department is great. I service manager is great and tries to keep ever reasonable problem under warrenty. try giving them a call and talking to her, see if she can do anything for you.

Get enough people together and file a class action lawsuit if you think it's that bad of a problem. Seriously, some people seem to be getting screwed pretty hard by Mitsu and some of the dealerships so why just lie down and take it in the rear?

Plus, I'm 99.9% certain they can not dictate what oil filter brand you must use, just as they can't dictate what air filter you use or oil manufacturer. It's all to do with that Magnusson Morrison thing or whatever the hell it's called.

Last time I had my car in for service they noted:
After market air filter
After market booster gauge

And stated that engine work would not be covered. I didn't argue at the time because I didn't read the paperwork until I got home (they didn't charge me). Dunno how they missed the MBC zip tied in plain view.

I sure would like to see some numbers of how many folks have had warranty coverage denials. As more folks are putting more miles on the evos. there are a lot of motors having problems. There are also a lot of people with problems that are minimizing them. I'm surprised when I talk to some people the problems they have and how they consider it trivial.. They just drive (?) around the problem.. or don't drive it at all, but more keep it under 2 grand and baby it..

I'm wondering if the bearing material is somehow defective or in large batches problematic. I've some motors that went south and they were clearly manufacturer defects but Mitsu cerain delaerships were not capable of diagnosing the problem properly and owners went elsewhere. Each time it has been from bearing faluire of one sort or another.

Balance shaft bearings disintegarating and clogging up the next thing down the oil galleys.. happened to be #2 piston oil squirter/cooler. Piston overheated and broke..

Motors with plenty of oil and and oil pump that looked fine, but main bearings scarred.. Rod bearings as well..

The oil pumps don't seem to be problamatic, but somethign with the bearings.. rod, main, balance shafts seams defective..

just my observations..

Good luck with the warranty. have them check the balance shaft bearings too. Those balance shafts since early DSMs have been nothing put horsepower robbing problems..

I guess this is how Mitsu turns an amazing bargain of a $28k car into a $35k+ car.. nickel and dime (and sometimes $5k checks) you for the length of your supposed warranty..

Finally got a call from Chris, the Service Manager. Chris said that he ordered the short block today and a new oil pump. Apparently they went back and forth with corporate on this. They finally found out that NAPA has the wrong part # in their computer for the EVO oil filter. The filter is a little small for the EVO, and the part # is for a regular LANCER 2.0... So, basically they will have to take it up with NAPA... They were relatively cool about it, but still insist that the oil is not synthetic. I ordered a kit from OILLab.com on monday, so I'll be getting it analyzed for my own piece of mind. Spoke with the owner from Oillab.com and he's VERY knowledgable on the subject. They do full spectrum analysis and can pretty much tell what's wrong with the engine just from the oil..

So we'll see what happens when the block comes in... So far they know for sure that the cylinder 1 and 2 rod bearing are shot. Hopefully I'll have a better performing engine after all of this.

If you ever need it, it's the

Magnuson-Moss act.

sorry to hear about this crap going on with your car, Greg. In all the times I saw you with either the 3G or the Evo, not once did I see you do anything remotely close to abusive. I know you baby your cars. If possible, I would have said to drive over here. The dealers here know better than to screw with the DSM community.

Broke my car in hard the way I drive, change the oil every 250 miles for the first 500miles. Car burns no oil, and I have no gas smell in it eighter.

Mitsu has a really big problem and I hate dealing with them. Basically all I buy from them is the oil filter. Which in fact they did once put the normal lancer filter on once and I still have the sales receipt on it in case I have any problems. And to think they were pushing there extended warranty on me for the whole time that I was there buying the car, LOL. I am glad I never thought about getting it. Wish I could sell the remainder of my existing warranty to them.
I really enjoy my car, but I really hate Mitsu. All of us Evo owner's should really get together and start something about all of this terrible service.
