I want that torque, 2.3 or 2.4LR, already have built 2.0

So I am looking for more low end torque. Currently I have a 10.5:1 2.0 with a 3586 with a .63 hotside, which has been awesome for me. But I am looking to get some more low end out of the car. So I can either pull the block and just swap the crank and pistons or I can do a 2.4LR build.

Car is not setup to run crazy boost, I use it more for daily driver/family car(kids love the evo), so when it is in that mode boost is never over 20psi. For road racing the car is setup about 16-18psi and a mild tune nothing crazy. Then for the Drag strip it is setup for 32-33psi and kill mode on the timing.

90% daily/family car
8% road racing - RobiSpec KW Race coils
2% drag racing

So getting that bump in torque will help in the corners.

So blast away .

I'd say leave your built 2.0 motor alone and pick up a 4G64 block. A 2.4LR motor will be better suited for road racing because the longer rods, less side load on the piston. Also cheaper to replace if anything goes wrong.

Agree. Keep you current stuff until you could build a separate short block.

It's not necessarily the motor that needs changing. Look to your turbo. You already have the rod to stroke ratio to allow for lower piston speeds and reduced sidewall loading. A $2000 turbo swap is much easier than a motor swap/rebuild.

I am all setup for a Tial VBand housing, so that limits the turbos. Also I love the fact that I can run the 3586 at 16psi and make 400hp, and crank it to 22 and make 550whp, and then crank it to 32 and make 650+. So it gives me a super wide power range with the turn of a knob.

So if I can add 100tq below 4500rpm with some more displacement that seems like the win.

It is just hard to tear apart a car that is running great .

You can swap a smaller Turbo for street duty and swapping a vband turbo is easy. A HTA 3076R will give you that tq. I am a 2.4 guy too and I wouldn't swap a perfectly good running car. I would like to have a smaller Turbo for street use and a huge Turbo for drag or highway pulls.

I didnt even like a green with 2.0. turbo cars are much more fun with low end response. for the way you drive stroke that baby. and I would swap turbo to a TAK33

I would say 2.3 and different turbo. I am going 2.3 and 3B.....I think it will be a great balance.
I should have some data on this setup in the next few weeks.

I say do the 2.3 upgrade if you really want the torque that bad. Good luck to you, but the vband option with 2 turbos is also a great idea, one smaller for road course the other bigger turbo for street and drag...

Can't wait to see the numbers this setup will put down.

What cams did you end up sticking with after the DSport cams test?

I love my 2.4 but if i were to do it all over again i would go with a 2.3. going to a 2.4 there are a few things you need to change and do to make it work, its not much and not to hard but its just more work. keeping the 4g63 block you don't have to worry about anything just drop it in and all stock parts work.

With a 2.4 you either need the stock waterpump with a spacer or a 03 outlander waterpump and modify a few things to make it fit. next you need either the stock timing belt or the old galant timing belt than you need to also get new cam gears to make the timing right.

which ever route you go you may want to get a 4.11 final drive to help compensate so you don't have to rev the motor as high to keep that engine from over revving to much.

I was on GSC S2's before the test, and I am still rocking them now. I think the S2's or anything in that range are a good happy medium between power and daily driver status. I would only switch to another cam if it helped me pick up more down low TQ and did not kill HP up top.
