What kind of diff?! I'm assuming you're talking about the rear.

OEM Diaqueen. There rear diff seems to be particular on the fluid in it. Ive had the wrong fluids ruin my diff, so I switched to oem after replacing my diff.

Unless your diff looks something like this (notice the rear sight glass), you should use OEM:

So what fluid you use depends on how it looks on the outside now? Really golgo13?

Yeah, yeah. I was being an ***. Let me be a bit more helpful.

In all reality, you probably want to run OEM if you just have rearranged plates.

96-07 EVO: Mitsubishi recommends that the rear axle that is found in the EVOLUTION be filled with their factory oil, Diaqueen LSD Gear Oil part# 3775610 or a high quality GL-5 or higher 90w Hypoid LSD gear oil. These oils contain a friction modifier that will reduce noise associated with friction disc type limited slips.

REDLINE 80W-140 GL-5 GEAR OIL We recommend using Redline 80W140 GL-5 Gear Oil. Their part number is # 58104. For road racing applications, use Redline 80w-140.

REDLINE SHOCKPROOF HEAVY If the vehicle is going to be drag raced Redline Shockproof Heavy is an excellent oil for the rear axle but outside temps should be 45*F or warmer because the oil is not thin enough for cold weather use.

Motul Gear Competition ff 75W-140. More expensive, but more better.

you cant go off of looks alone, its all about how it smells. I recommend Castrol Syntrax because it smells the closest to diaqueen.

Yeah, stick with OEM - Diaqueen. One of the best fluids for our rear diff, either stock or modified with the plates rearranged.

Like everyone else's Evo, my car came with the factory fill Diaqueen in the rear diff. From day one the rear diff exhibited an annoying whine while slowing for a red light, during deceleration with the throttle lifted.

I dumped the Diaqueen at 30,000 kilometers and replaced it with Competition ff Motul and no more whining and gnashing upon deceleration.
