They are both good rods but with the Carrillo being 100 grams lighter then the Manley I beam and plenty strong its going to be easier on the bearings. Less rotational weight is always a good thing. I chose a custom set of them years ago and am happy with them. I see a set in your future. lol

What set of pistons and rings will match up best with these Carrillo rods?

There are many great choices and we are spoiled by the technology that is available to us with shelf parts. Any 2618 piston and a proper sized wrist pin will live a long time when used correctly. I went with CP customs with a few options on my 94/153 combo .

There are way too many choices! I guess my best option is to let a machine shop inspect my block and they will tell me what combination is best.
CP has interesting explanations on their piston head design.

These cheaper brands are about 1/3 the cost of Carrillo.

The cheap hbeams like the basic Eagles and Manley's (including the Htuff I'm guessing) will not hold up to what the Carrillo's can. You get what you pay for.

Agreed. I like the lighter rods for higher revs too.

What is the best price you guys can find for Carrillo eith the Carriage bolts? I found it for $1040.

ExtremePSI has the 150mm for $1k. You can call English Racing and see what their price is on them.

Im guessing they can get you whatever you want but Im pretty sure ER specs their Carillo's with CARR rod bolts in which case the price will be even more than what youre seeing on ExtremePSI. Just something else to keep in mind...

I saw that MrFred swapped his pistons and rods but his engine is burning oil now. Not sure if that is from normal wear (from high power). I'm starting to lean towards having a machine shop check clearances and hone cylinders as a precaution. Probably have them check ring clearances and install too. This cost is jumping fast!

CARR is the standard bolt. If you order the standard length 150mm or 156mm rods from ER, they're just the shelf Rod's so the pricing is better than the custom 153mm rods for the 2.2.

06evo.... Yes, the block should be hot tanked and honed. Idk what pricing is like in your area, but my machine shop will hot tank, hone and deck a 4 cylinder for like $225ish. Well worth the expense to get a properly cleaned block (you still need to hand wash it), that will get proper ring and head gasket sealing.

I'm running the Carrillo Pro H Beams and JE FSR pistons. The Carrillos with the Carr bolt will handle a lot of power and will rev plenty. They are more expensive but you are getting a high quality product and they are made here in America.

I'm sold on the rods. Now, to weed through all the sales pitches to find the best piston...
I just realized that CP and Carrillo are one company and they're here in my back yard, Irvine!
