blown Fp black?

So my turbo started leaking oil into the compressor housing about 2 months after the install. and now about 9 months later, my car has started blowing massive amounts of oil out of the bov. It blows up on the windshield, the front bumper, all inside the hood, and al over the engine bay. Fp blames crankcase pressure. ive tried multiple catch can set ups, and pcv set ups. Im not blowing the dipstick out or anything like that.

I'll make an assumption here and guess that this a BB turbo. If so I urge you to read through this thread

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...llbearing.html

taking note of post #59 and #77.

The older style Forced Performance ball bearing turbo's have a habit of leaking oil, I see you have the same issue with oil coming out of your BOV as I did. I would suggest that before you go pouring money into crankcase ventilation systems and such you have the turbo checked like I did (not by FP because they will more likely than not look at it, say it's ok, and send it back to you). If you know someone nearby with a dynamic balancer (any good turbo mech), get them to run it up to speed and see what happens. If you see oil leak out doing this then crankcase ventilation mods will do nothing for your problem.

You can see why FP stopped selling their original BB turbo.

Hey guys.

I purchased an MR recently with a blown motor and BB FP Black.
Everything had ~1500km on it.

Rebuilt the motor, however turbo was leaking heavily from the turbo inlet and compressor outlet, just like yours Mick, Andrew etc.
I added 2x 10AN breathers to a catch can, 10AN feed from there back to turbo inlet as per FP's suggestions.

I figured I would do a bit of testing before having it rebuilt to JB specs as I had nothing to lose when a mate suggested it looked like to much pressure being supplied to the CHRA.

- Black 'restricted' oil feed from filter housing = oil pouring out or inlet and comp outlet, filling intercooler etc.
- Changed to stock 'unrestricted' head feed line I made up in 4AN braided line = reduced the leaking by half, still present in intake pipe and slowly dripping out comp outlet at a rate of one drip per 5sec.
- Added 0.9mm 4AN restrictor to braided feed line as you would do if you we're running a Garrett GT/GTX turbo. Instantly stopped dripping, no more pooling at idle in the inlet.
Drove it ~55km yesterday arvo, no oil in intake pipe anymore! Turbo is still fine, will update again in a week to see if I've restricted the turbo to much and toasted it, however I have a feeling it will be fine as this is how I've always setup Garretts.

So i just checked on FP's site, they are now saying to feed all of their ball bearing turbos from the head. I dont think that has always been the case. I know for a fact that in november of 2013 they said it needed to be fed from the oil filter housing.

Man these things leak like a screen door on a submarine. My JB Black leaked then seized up on my. I was running the oil lines as advised on their website back a few years ago. I have a few friends with the new BB versions that are leaking too.

Here is the link to my friends thread. Not fixed yet

Good luck lol

If fp claims its due to excessive crankcase pressure or a dying motor, then how come i didnt have the same issue with a 20g that i ran and the stock turbo? For the FP install all i did was remove my 20g, and install the dbb black, and it started leaking oil before i really boosted on it. I know my engine didnt take a crap in between turbos.

Link to the 4AN restrictor? Do you think this will still work for a line coming off the filter housing or the pressure is still too beastly?

This may prevent me from throwing my DBB Red into a fire pit fueled by all the oil it outputs.

I ran a 4an inline restrictor and also tried running the oil line from the head with and without the restrictor, didn't do anything to stop the oil leaking. The only thing that did stop the oil was converting the turbo to a JB, which cost me $700 or so, on top of the $300 catch can system, which also didn't do a thing. Over $1000 on top of the $2500 turbo to get it to not leak oil everywhere. FP haven't so much as sent me a PM to offer help, worst business EVER!

Top left restrictor is the one I used.
Ok, so update after 100km driving, oil is basically non-existant in the inlet pipe, smaller and smaller amounts are appearing, which I suspect is just the remains of what was in there.

Who did your conversion Andrew? GTP?
